Summary

This 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe Premium Plus offers a compelling mix of six-cylinder power and modern cabin technology, making it a standout choice in the family SUV segment. With 68,500 km, the mileage is perfectly average for its age in the GCC, suggesting a car that has been regularly used for the long highway commutes typical of the region. The white exterior is the most sought-after color for resale in the Emirates, as it reflects the intense summer sun and keeps the cabin cooler. Compared to its rivals, the Santa Fe leads with its generous standard safety equipment and smooth power delivery from the naturally aspirated V6. For a GCC buyer, this model represents a reliable family workhorse that balances refinement with the practical durability Hyundai is known for.

This Car vs Other 2022 Santa Fes

With 68,500 km on the odometer, this Santa Fe sits right at the expected usage level for a UAE-based family vehicle, which typically covers 20,000 to 25,000 km annually. The white paintwork is a significant advantage in the local market, ensuring the best possible heat reflection during summer months and the highest demand at the time of resale. Choosing a 2022 model means benefiting from the major 2021 facelift while avoiding the steeper initial depreciation of a brand-new vehicle.

PREMIUM PLUS vs Lower Trims

The Premium Plus trim is a major step up from the base SE and SEL models, adding essential high-end features like ventilated front seats—a necessity for the GCC climate. It also introduces a premium 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio system and a 360-degree surround-view camera, providing a level of luxury and parking convenience often reserved for much more expensive executive SUVs. The addition of a panoramic sunroof and genuine leather upholstery further elevates the interior experience for all passengers.

Santa Fe vs Segment Rivals

The Santa Fe competes directly with the Toyota Highlander and Kia Sorento, offering a more technology-focused interior for the price point. While rivals often charge extra for advanced driver aids, this Santa Fe includes a comprehensive ADAS suite as standard. Its 3.5L V6 provides a more linear and refined power delivery than the smaller turbocharged four-cylinders found in some competitors, which is particularly noticeable during high-speed overtakes on the E11 highway.

Running Costs & Resale

Hyundai maintains one of the most extensive authorized service networks across the UAE and Saudi Arabia, ensuring parts are affordable and readily available. Service intervals typically occur every 10,000 km, with a major service including spark plugs and fluids at the 60,000 km mark—a milestone this car has recently passed. While Japanese rivals like Toyota may hold a slight edge in absolute value retention, the Santa Fe remains one of the most liquid SUVs in the GCC used market, with a predictable annual depreciation of approximately 12-15% after the third year.

Performance & Capability

The 280 hp 3.5-litre V6 engine ensures effortless performance even when the car is fully loaded with seven passengers and cargo. This naturally aspirated unit is well-suited to GCC conditions, offering reliable cooling and smooth power without the heat-soak issues sometimes associated with small turbos in 45°C weather. The All-Wheel Drive system provides confident traction on gravel tracks or sand-drifted coastal roads, though the car is primarily tuned for highway stability and family comfort.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for long-distance family travel, featuring a seven-seat layout with dedicated rear AC vents to ensure everyone stays cool during the summer. Up front, the ventilated seats are a game-changer for daily commuting, while the acoustic glass helps isolate the cabin from wind and road noise at highway speeds. When not in use, the third row folds completely flat to reveal 628 litres of cargo space, enough for several large suitcases or a significant grocery run.

Safety

Safety is a primary focus for this trim, which comes equipped with Hyundai SmartSense. This includes Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance, and Lane Keeping Assist, which are particularly useful in fast-moving, multi-lane GCC traffic. The Surround View Monitor makes maneuvering this large SUV into tight mall parking spaces stress-free, while the Safe Exit Assist prevents rear doors from opening if a vehicle is approaching from behind.

The bottom line

This Santa Fe is the ideal opportunity for a growing family in the GCC looking for a high-spec, seven-seat SUV that is already past its steepest depreciation curve. Its combination of the preferred 3.5L V6 engine and the high-resale white exterior makes it a safe and sensible purchase in the current market.
