Toyota Hilux DLS

Highlights

• 3,500 kg braked towing capacity
• 500 Nm of torque
• Extensive GCC authorised service network

Summary

This 2021 Toyota Hilux DLS is a standout choice in the GCC used market, offering exceptionally low mileage of just 28,000 km, well below the regional average for a three-year-old workhorse. Finished in White, the most sought-after color for resale in the Emirates, this diesel-powered pickup combines rugged durability with the upgraded 2.8L engine introduced in this facelift year. It offers a significant power advantage over the standard 2.4L variants, making it ideal for both heavy-duty site work and highway commuting. As a GCC-spec vehicle, it provides peace of mind with full compatibility for local service centers and superior cooling performance for the harsh summer heat.

This Car vs Other 2021 Hiluxs

With only 28,000 km on the odometer, this Hilux has been driven significantly less than the typical 60,000–75,000 km expected for a 2021 model in the GCC. The White exterior is the strongest resale color in the local market, ensuring it holds its value better than darker or metallic alternatives. This low-mileage example represents a rare opportunity to own a mid-generation facelift model that is still in its mechanical prime.

DLS vs Lower Trims

The DLS trim bridges the gap between basic utility and daily comfort, featuring the high-output 2.8L turbo-diesel engine that produces 500 Nm of torque—a major step up from the 400 Nm found in 2.4L models. This trim includes the updated 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, along with a digital speedometer and improved cabin materials. Buyers also benefit from the revised variable-flow control power steering, which makes maneuvering in city traffic much lighter than in base-trim predecessors.

Hilux vs Segment Rivals

Compared to rivals like the Mitsubishi L200 and Nissan Navara, the Hilux leads with a higher braked towing capacity of 3,500 kg and superior parts availability across all GCC territories. Its 80-litre fuel tank provides an excellent cruising range for long-distance desert drives or cross-border trips to Saudi Arabia and Oman. The Hilux remains the segment benchmark for residual value, consistently outperforming American and European competitors in long-term price retention.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 2.8L diesel typically averages between 9.5 and 10.7 L/100km, offering high efficiency for a vehicle of this size during long GCC highway stints. Service intervals are standard for Toyota diesels at every 10,000 km, supported by the region's most extensive authorized network including Al-Futtaim and Abdullah Abdulghani. The Hilux is legendary for its slow depreciation, typically retaining over 70% of its value after three years in the GCC market, making it one of the safest automotive investments in the region.

Performance & Capability

The upgraded 2.8L 1GD-FTV engine delivers 204 hp and a massive 500 Nm of torque, enabling a 0–100 km/h time of 10.7 seconds—a notable improvement for highway overtaking. Its all-wheel-drive system and 310 mm ground clearance make it highly capable for weekend desert excursions or navigating rugged construction sites. The 3.5-tonne towing capacity ensures it can handle large boats or equipment trailers with ease across various terrains.

Comfort & Cabin

The 2021 facelift interior brings a more SUV-like feel to the cabin with improved sound insulation and a redesigned instrument cluster. The 5-seat layout offers ample room for a crew or family, supported by a powerful air conditioning system specifically tuned for GCC extreme temperatures. Dedicated storage bins and tactile physical knobs for the infotainment system ensure ease of use even when driving over rough off-road surfaces.

Safety

Standard safety features on this trim include a suite of airbags, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) to maintain composure on sand or gravel. The inclusion of a rear-view camera and parking sensors simplifies maneuvering in tight urban spaces, while Trailer Sway Control (TSC) provides added security when hauling heavy loads on the highway.

The bottom line

This is a prime opportunity for a buyer seeking a near-new, high-spec diesel workhorse with the highest possible resale potential in the GCC. Its rare combination of low mileage and the powerful 2.8L engine makes it a far superior choice to higher-mileage alternatives currently on the market.
