Summary

This 2022 Chevrolet Captiva Premier is a highly practical choice for growing families in the GCC, offering a versatile seven-seat layout at a competitive price point. With a clean white exterior, it holds excellent resale appeal in the regional market where light colors are highly preferred for their heat-reflection properties. The Premier trim ensures you aren't sacrificing modern tech, featuring a large vertical touchscreen and a surround-view camera that makes navigating tight city parking much easier. For a four-year-old SUV, the mileage is perfectly in line with typical GCC highway usage, and its turbocharged engine provides a balanced mix of efficiency and power for the daily school run or intercity commutes. It remains a standout in the compact crossover segment for those who prioritize seating capacity and interior volume above all else.

This Car vs Other 2022 Captivas

At 72,000 km, this Captiva's mileage is average for a four-year-old vehicle in the GCC, where annual driving typically reaches 20,000 km. The white exterior is the most sought-after color in the local used market, ensuring faster resale and better value retention compared to darker shades. As a Premier trim, it offers a significantly more modern cabin feel than the base models found in most fleet or rental inventories.

PREMIER vs Lower Trims

The Premier trim upgrades the driving experience with a 360-degree surround-view camera, a panoramic sunroof, and a larger 7-inch digital driver information display. It also adds a 6-way power-adjustable driver’s seat and automatic climate control, features that provide essential comfort during the peak GCC summer months.

Captiva vs Segment Rivals

The Captiva leads rivals like the Mitsubishi ASX and Toyota Rush by offering a more spacious third row and a more advanced 10.4-inch vertical infotainment system. While most compact SUVs in this price bracket feel basic, the Captiva provides a larger footprint and higher cargo volume, making it a more viable long-term family vehicle for those who frequently carry seven passengers.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 1.5L turbo averages roughly 8.4 L/100km, performing well on long highway stretches between emirates. Chevrolet has an extensive authorized service network across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, with standard service intervals every 10,000 km. The Captiva shows stable depreciation in the GCC, typically retaining more value than its European counterparts due to its mechanical simplicity and parts availability.

Performance & Capability

The 1.5L turbocharged engine delivers 149 hp and 255 Nm of torque, which is well-suited for steady highway cruising and efficient city driving. The front-wheel-drive platform is designed for road comfort rather than off-roading, offering predictable handling on paved surfaces and gravel tracks. With a ground clearance of approximately 185 mm, it easily handles speed bumps and uneven urban terrain common in developing areas.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the Premier trim features black leatherette upholstery and dedicated air conditioning vents for the second and third rows to ensure all seven passengers stay cool. The 60/40 second-row and 50/50 third-row seats fold flat into the floor, expanding cargo capacity to 1,051 litres for large grocery hauls or family trips. Tech highlights include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, which pair perfectly with the large vertical touchscreen.

Safety

The Premier trim comes standard with six airbags, providing comprehensive protection for front and side impacts. Active safety features include Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Traction Control, and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) which is vital for long desert highway drives. The 360-degree camera and front and rear parking sensors provide an extra layer of safety when maneuvering in crowded family areas or shopping mall parking lots.

The bottom line

This Captiva Premier is the ideal match for a budget-conscious family that needs seven seats and modern safety tech without the high overhead of a full-size SUV. It is a well-maintained, GCC-spec vehicle in the region's best resale color, representing a smart and stable investment.
