Summary

This 2022 Chevrolet Captiva Premier is a standout choice for families seeking a modern seven-seater that balances space with exceptional fuel efficiency. As a four-year-old vehicle with 129,000 km, its mileage reflects a history of consistent highway use common in the GCC, where these engines are known for their steady long-distance performance. The Premier trim elevates the experience with premium tech like a 360° camera and a panoramic sunroof, features that are highly prized in the local used market. Finished in black, it maintains a classic and professional look that traditionally supports strong resale value across the region. For the buyer navigating Dubai's city traffic or Abu Dhabi's highways, this Captiva offers a practical, feature-rich package that undercuts many rivals on running costs.

This Car vs Other 2022 Captivas

With 129,000 km, this vehicle has been driven approximately 32,000 km per year, which is slightly above the GCC average of 25,000 km but typical for commuters traversing between Emirates. In the local market, black is a top-tier resale color that commands attention and holds value better than niche shades. While the mileage is higher than some city-only examples, it indicates a car that has been regularly exercised on open highways, preventing the carbon buildup often seen in low-mileage city cars.

Premier vs Lower Trims

The Premier trim is a significant step up from the LS and LT, replacing the standard rearview camera with a comprehensive 360-degree parking system that is essential for navigating tight GCC mall parking. Inside, it swaps out basic materials for premium leather upholstery and adds a 6-way power-adjustable driver’s seat. The most visible upgrade is the panoramic sunroof, a feature that significantly improves the cabin's ambiance and is a primary requirement for many used car buyers in the UAE.

Captiva vs Segment Rivals

Compared to rivals like the Toyota Rush and Mitsubishi Xpander, the Captiva offers a more modern turbocharged powertrain that provides better torque for highway overtaking. Its 10.4-inch vertical touchscreen is one of the largest in this price segment, offering a tech-forward feel that competitors often lack. Furthermore, the Captiva’s total cargo volume of 1,051 liters with the third row stowed leads several direct competitors, making it a more versatile tool for family road trips.

Running Costs & Resale

The 1.5L turbo engine is highly efficient for the GCC, achieving a manufacturer-rated 16.7 km/L, which helps mitigate the cost of frequent long-distance driving. Service intervals are standard for Chevrolet in the region at every 10,000 km, supported by an extensive authorized network across the UAE, KSA, and Oman. While American brands generally depreciate faster than Japanese equivalents, the high demand for affordable seven-seaters in the GCC keeps the Captiva's value retention stable, typically seeing a 15-18% annual adjustment.

Performance & Capability

Delivering 149 horsepower and 255 Nm of torque, the Captiva is tuned for smooth, linear power delivery via its CVT, making it ideal for the stop-start traffic of Riyadh or Dubai. The front-wheel-drive setup is optimized for fuel saving and road comfort, providing a stable ride on well-maintained GCC highways. While not designed for dune bashing, its 180 mm ground clearance is more than sufficient for handling gravel tracks and the high speed bumps common in residential communities.

Comfort & Cabin

The seven-seat layout is highly flexible, featuring a second row that slides and reclines to prioritize either legroom or cargo space. To combat the extreme GCC summer, the cabin is equipped with dedicated rear AC vents that ensure all three rows remain cool even in 45°C heat. Acoustic windshield glass comes standard on the Premier trim, noticeably reducing wind noise during high-speed cruising on the E11 or Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road.

Safety

Safety is comprehensive for the family buyer, featuring front and side airbags along with Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Traction Control to maintain grip on sandy or rain-slicked roads. The Premier trim includes front and rear parking sensors and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), which is vital for maintaining safety during the high temperatures of the Gulf summer. ISOFIX anchors are standard in the second row, ensuring secure fitment for child seats.

The bottom line

This Captiva Premier is the ideal match for a growing family that needs seven seats and modern tech without the high fuel bills of a V6 SUV. It represents a sharp buying opportunity for those who value the high-spec Premier features and the trust of a GCC-spec history.
