Summary

This GCC-spec 2022 Ford Ranger Wildtrak offers a balanced middle ground for the UAE market, pairing a responsive petrol engine with high-end cabin features. At 87,000 km, the mileage is average for its age in a region where highway commutes quickly add up, but the 2.3L EcoBoost's smoothness remains a major draw over diesel alternatives. Grey is a highly practical and strong resale color in the GCC, as it hides sand dust effectively while maintaining a professional appearance. As the top-tier non-Raptor trim, it provides the versatility of a work truck with the daily comfort of a family SUV. For a buyer in the Emirates or Saudi Arabia, the localized GCC cooling and extensive Ford service network make this a reliable choice for both urban commutes and weekend adventures.

This Car vs Other 2022 Rangers

With 87,000 km on the clock, this Ranger has seen typical usage for a vehicle in the GCC, where 25,000 km per year is the standard for highway-heavy driving. Its Grey exterior is among the most sought-after colors for resale in the local market, trailing only white for its ability to withstand the desert sun. Being a GCC-spec model, it carries a value premium over imported American or European units due to its localized cooling systems and full compatibility with regional service centers.

WILDTRAK vs Lower Trims

Stepping up to the Wildtrak adds critical comfort features that lower XLT or XLS trims lack, such as partial leather upholstery with signature orange stitching and heated front seats. It also introduces the high-resolution 12-inch portrait-style touchscreen featuring Ford's SYNC 4 system, which is a major upgrade from the smaller 8-inch units. Externally, the Wildtrak is distinguished by its unique boulder grey grille, specialized 18-inch wheels, and the integrated bed liner with a cargo management system.

Ranger vs Segment Rivals

The Ranger Wildtrak competes directly with the Toyota Hilux Adventure and the Mitsubishi L200, but leads the pack in terms of interior technology and road refinement. While the Hilux is known for utility, the Ranger's 10-speed automatic transmission provides a smoother highway experience across long stretches like the E11. Its 3,500 kg towing capacity is class-leading, making it a more capable choice for those hauling boats or trailers compared to smaller-engine rivals.

Running Costs & Resale

The 2.3L petrol powertrain typically averages between 10.5 and 12.5 L/100km depending on GCC city traffic or highway cruising. Service intervals are generally every 10,000 km, and Ford’s authorized network is robust across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, ensuring parts are readily available. In the GCC market, the Ranger Wildtrak retains value well, often seeing lower annual depreciation than European luxury SUVs due to its reputation for durability.

Performance & Capability

The 2.3L EcoBoost engine produces a stout 270 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque, providing effortless overtaking power on fast-moving GCC highways. Its advanced All-Wheel Drive system and 230 mm of ground clearance make it highly capable for soft sand driving and gravel tracks common during weekend desert trips. The 10-speed automatic transmission is specifically tuned to keep the engine in its power band, ensuring the truck feels responsive even when carrying a full payload.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed to combat the extreme GCC heat with a powerful dual-zone climate control system and rear-seat vents to keep all five passengers cool. The Wildtrak trim includes acoustic glass to reduce road noise during long-distance drives between emirates, creating a refined environment. Tech highlights include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a premium audio system, making it one of the most connected interiors in the pickup segment.

Safety

The 2022 Wildtrak comes standard with Ford's Co-Pilot360 suite, which is essential for safely navigating fast-moving multi-lane traffic. Key features include Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane-Keeping System, and Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) with Trailer Coverage. These active safety aids, combined with seven airbags, provided it with a 5-star ANCAP safety rating during its launch year.

The bottom line

This Ranger Wildtrak is the ideal pick for a professional who needs a dual-purpose vehicle that is as comfortable on a 400 km highway trip as it is on a construction site. It offers a more refined driving experience than its Japanese rivals while maintaining the high resale value and serviceability expected in the GCC.
