Summary

This 2022 GAC GS4 GB offers a highly competitive blend of modern technology and efficiency for the GCC market. With mileage that sits comfortably within the average range for its age, it represents a well-maintained entry into the compact SUV segment. The grey exterior is a neutral, high-demand choice in the region, ensuring better resale stability compared to brighter colors. As a GCC-spec model, it is fully optimized for local climate conditions, featuring a robust cooling system and a powertrain tuned for both city traffic and highway cruising. For buyers seeking a tech-forward crossover without the premium price tag of Japanese rivals, this GS4 is a standout option.

This Car vs Other 2022 GS4s

With just under 63,000 km, this GS4 is slightly below the typical GCC annual average of 25,000 km, suggesting it has been used primarily for commuting rather than heavy cross-border travel. The grey exterior is one of the top three resale colors in the UAE and Saudi markets, providing a significant edge over less common shades. Its GCC-spec status ensures the air conditioning and engine cooling are specifically engineered to handle the 45°C+ summer peaks common in the region.

GB vs Lower Trims

The GB trim serves as a significant upgrade over the base GS, introducing the highly sought-after 360-degree camera system which is essential for navigating tight parking in Dubai or Riyadh. It also adds premium leatherette upholstery and a larger touchscreen interface with smartphone integration that is absent on the entry-level models. Furthermore, the GB trim typically includes side airbags and upgraded alloy wheels, offering both better safety and a more refined road presence.

GS4 vs Segment Rivals

The GS4 leads many of its Chinese and Japanese rivals in cabin refinement and standard tech at this price point, often including features like the 360-degree camera as standard where others charge extra. While it competes with the Haval H6 and MG HS, the GS4 is frequently noted for its smoother 6-speed automatic transmission which many local drivers prefer over the jerky dual-clutch units found in some competitors. Its 55-litre fuel tank is well-sized for long-distance desert highway drives between emirates.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel economy is impressive, averaging approximately 6.8 L/100km, which helps mitigate the cost of frequent city commuting. GAC has established a strong authorized service presence across the GCC, particularly through Gargash in the UAE, ensuring parts are readily available and maintenance is straightforward. While it experiences higher initial depreciation than a Toyota, the GS4 holds its value better than many other emerging brands due to its growing reputation for reliability in the local climate.

Performance & Capability

The 1.5-litre turbocharged engine produces a healthy 166 hp and 265 Nm of torque, providing plenty of punch for overtaking on fast-moving highways like the E11. The 6-speed automatic transmission is tuned for comfort, offering smooth shifts that handle stop-start traffic with ease. While it is a front-wheel-drive crossover intended for urban use, its ground clearance is sufficient for handling gravel roads and weekend trips to suburban beach spots.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the GS4 features a spacious 5-seat layout with high-quality materials that punch above its weight class. The air conditioning system is remarkably powerful, a critical factor for GCC owners, with dedicated rear vents ensuring all passengers stay cool during the peak of summer. Acoustic glass helps keep the cabin quiet at highway speeds, making it a comfortable environment for the long drives between major GCC cities.

Safety

Standard safety on the GB trim includes four airbags, electronic stability control, and a tire pressure monitoring system that is vital for maintaining safety during high-temperature drives. The 360-degree camera provides a bird's-eye view of the vehicle, reducing the risk of minor collisions in crowded urban areas. Additionally, the inclusion of ISOFIX points makes it a secure choice for families with small children.

The bottom line

This GAC GS4 is the ideal choice for a tech-savvy buyer who wants a modern, fuel-efficient SUV that is already proven in GCC conditions. It offers a premium feature set and respectable mileage, making it one of the best value-for-money opportunities currently on the market.
