Summary

This 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe in the SMART trim offers a balanced combination of efficiency and family utility, featuring the 2.5L Smartstream engine designed for consistent performance in the GCC climate. With seven seats and a cavernous interior, it stands out in the midsize SUV segment for its practicality and lower cost of ownership compared to larger rivals. The black exterior is a highly sought-after choice in the UAE and wider region, ensuring strong resale demand when it comes time to upgrade. Having covered 86,611 km, this vehicle sits at a standard mileage for a three-year-old GCC family car, indicating it has been used primarily for the long-distance highway commutes typical of the region. As a GCC-spec model, it benefits from an air conditioning system and cooling components specifically engineered to handle extreme summer temperatures.

This Car vs Other 2022 Santa Fes

At 86,611 km, this Santa Fe has been driven roughly 28,000 km per year, which aligns perfectly with the typical annual usage for family SUVs in the GCC. The black exterior is a premier resale color in the local market, holding its value better than more niche shades. While many listings in this year range are five-seaters, this seven-seat configuration offers significantly better versatility for growing families.

SMART vs Lower Trims

The SMART trim serves as a significant upgrade over the base SE, providing essential GCC conveniences like second-row HVAC vents and enhanced safety tech. It includes standard features such as 18-inch alloy wheels, a rearview monitor with parking guidance, and wireless smartphone integration. These additions make it a far more comfortable choice for daily Dubai or Riyadh traffic than the entry-level configurations.

Santa Fe vs Segment Rivals

The Santa Fe leads competitors like the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V by offering a usable third row, making it a bridge between compact crossovers and larger SUVs. Its 18.8-gallon fuel tank provides an excellent highway range, ideal for cross-border trips or long drives between the Emirates. Additionally, its monocoque construction offers a more car-like, refined ride than body-on-frame alternatives in this price bracket.

Running Costs & Resale

The 2.5L engine is tuned for efficiency, achieving approximately 9.0 L/100km on the highway, which is excellent for a seven-seater. Maintenance is straightforward with Hyundai’s massive service footprint across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, typically following 10,000 km intervals. As one of the most popular SUVs in the region, the Santa Fe enjoys a predictable depreciation curve and high liquidity in the used market.

Performance & Capability

The 191 hp Smartstream engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, providing smooth power delivery for highway overtaking and city merging. While configured with Front Wheel Drive for maximum fuel efficiency, the vehicle features selectable drive modes to optimize traction in different road conditions. With 181 lb-ft of torque, it remains capable even when fully loaded with seven passengers and their luggage.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for the heat, featuring a high-output air conditioning system and standard rear vents to keep all three rows cool during peak summer. The interior is highly flexible, with 60/40 split-folding seats that expand the cargo area to 72.1 cubic feet for major shopping trips or camping gear. Sound insulation is a highlight, keeping the cabin quiet during high-speed cruising on the E11 or other major GCC motorways.

Safety

This SMART trim comes equipped with Hyundai’s suite of safety technologies, including Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist and Lane Keeping Assist. The Rear Occupant Alert is a vital feature for families, while the high-strength steel chassis has earned top safety ratings globally. These systems provide peace of mind during the fast-paced driving conditions common on multi-lane GCC highways.

The bottom line

This GCC-spec Santa Fe is the ideal choice for a family looking for seven-seat versatility without the high running costs of a full-size SUV. Its combination of a desirable color, regional specification, and family-ready features makes it a high-value opportunity in today's market.
