• 360 degree camera standard

Summary

This 2022 GLS450 4MATIC offers an ideal entry into the flagship luxury SUV segment, combining a refined six-cylinder powertrain with the reliability of GCC specifications. At four years old, its mileage reflects consistent highway use, which is typical for premium family haulers in this region where long-distance travel is common. The white exterior remains the most sought-after color in the GCC market, ensuring strong resale liquidity and better heat reflection during peak summer months. As a purpose-built seven-seater, it stands out for providing genuine adult-sized comfort in the third row, a feat few rivals can match. For a GCC buyer, the standard inclusion of ventilated seats and four-zone climate control is the most critical factor for year-round usability.

This Car vs Other 2022 GLS450s

While this vehicle shows 163,122 km, it is important to note that GLS models in the UAE and wider GCC are frequently used for inter-city highway commutes, where mechanical wear is significantly lower than in stop-start urban traffic. The mileage is higher than the regional average of 25,000 km per year, yet the GCC-spec ensures the cooling systems and filters are specifically rated for local dust and heat. The white finish is a major advantage for local resale, consistently holding value better than darker alternatives.

4MATIC vs Lower Trims

As the 4MATIC is the standard all-wheel-drive configuration for the GLS450, it includes essential luxury features that were optional on earlier generations, such as the Burmester surround-sound system and the MBUX augmented reality navigation. For the 2022 model year, Mercedes-Benz made ventilated front seats and four-zone automatic climate control standard, providing a massive comfort boost over base-spec international variants. It also features the 360-degree camera and Active Parking Assist as standard, which are premium necessities for navigating a vehicle of this footprint.

GLS450 vs Segment Rivals

The GLS450 is often cross-shopped with the BMW X7 and the Range Rover, leading the segment in third-row accessibility and overall interior digital integration via the dual 12.3-inch displays. Its air suspension provides a more composed highway ride than the X7, particularly on the long stretches between Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Additionally, the mild-hybrid inline-six offers smoother stop-start transitions in heavy Riyadh or Dubai traffic compared to the turbocharged V6 engines found in some competitors.

Running Costs & Resale

The 3.0L inline-six mild-hybrid system is designed for efficiency, averaging approximately 10.5 L/100km on highway drives across the Emirates. Service intervals for Mercedes-Benz in the GCC are typically every 15,000 km, with an extensive network of authorized centers available in all major UAE cities, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait. While European luxury SUVs face an annual depreciation of roughly 15%, the GLS maintains a stronger following than its rivals due to its reputation for long-term electronics stability in high heat. Parts availability is excellent throughout the region, ensuring predictable maintenance costs.

Performance & Capability

The GLS450 delivers 362 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque, with the EQ Boost system providing an additional 21 hp for instant response during highway overtaking. It achieves a 0-100 km/h sprint in 6.2 seconds, which is remarkably agile for a full-size seven-passenger SUV. The standard AIRMATIC air suspension allows the driver to adjust ground clearance for light sandy tracks or lower it for improved aerodynamics during high-speed cruising. Various drive modes, including an Off-Road setting, optimize the 4MATIC system for the gravel and sand surfaces often encountered during weekend excursions.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the cabin is a sanctuary from the GCC summer, featuring standard ventilated front seats and a powerful four-zone climate control system that ensures even the third-row passengers stay cool. The seven-seat layout includes power-folding rear rows, making it easy to expand the boot space for large shopping trips or airport runs. Acoustic glass and premium MB-Tex upholstery provide a quiet, durable environment that resists the wear of family life and the intense local sun. The 64-color ambient lighting adds a sophisticated touch for evening drives along the Corniche.

Safety

Safety is comprehensive with the standard inclusion of Blind Spot Assist and Active Brake Assist, which are vital for the fast-paced multi-lane highways of the GCC. The 360-degree surround-view camera provides a top-down perspective, making parking this large SUV effortless even in tight mall spaces. It also includes PRE-SAFE technology and Parking Damage Detection, alerting you via the Mercedes me app if the vehicle is bumped while parked. Adaptive high-beam assist ensures maximum visibility on unlit desert roads without blinding oncoming traffic.

The bottom line

This GCC-spec GLS450 is the perfect match for a family looking for flagship Mercedes luxury and seven-seat practicality at a more accessible entry point. Despite the highway-driven mileage, the popular white exterior and standard ventilated seats make it a highly resilient and desirable choice for the local market.
