Summary

This 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS450 4MATIC represents a balanced choice in the luxury seven-seater segment, with its silver exterior maintaining high resale demand in the GCC market. At four years old with mileage just under 100,000 km, it has been driven at a typical regional pace, often reflecting the long highway stretches between major cities like Dubai and Abu Dhabi. While rivals like the BMW X7 focus heavily on driver dynamics, the GLS leads with superior cabin volume and a more forgiving air suspension, making it ideal for large families. Buyers should note that as an American-spec vehicle, it offers high-end infotainment and safety tech at a competitive entry point compared to GCC-spec equivalents. For a GCC buyer, this listing provides a premium flagship experience with a proven 3.0L mild-hybrid powertrain that excels during long-distance cross-border drives.

This Car vs Other 2022 GLS450s

With 96,798 km over 4 years, this vehicle sits exactly at the expected average for a luxury SUV in the UAE, where annual use typically ranges between 20,000 and 25,000 km. The silver finish is a highly strategic choice for the region, as it reflects heat more effectively than darker tones and holds its value exceptionally well in the local second-hand market. While some examples might show lower mileage, they often command a significant premium that doesn't always reflect better mechanical health for highway-biased cars.

4MATIC vs Lower Trims

As the 4MATIC trim, this model comes standard with the sophisticated MBUX infotainment system featuring dual 12.3-inch displays and the Burmester surround-sound system. Unlike base luxury SUVs in this class, it includes ventilated front seats and four-zone automatic climate control as standard, features that transition from luxuries to necessities during the intense GCC summer. The 48-volt mild-hybrid system also ensures smoother stop-start transitions in heavy city traffic compared to non-hybrid older generations.

GLS450 vs Segment Rivals

The GLS450 stands out against the BMW X7 and Audi Q7 by offering a more spacious third row that is genuinely usable for adults on longer trips. Its 90-litre fuel tank provides a superior cruising range for long-distance desert highway drives between the Emirates or into Saudi Arabia. Additionally, the AIRMATIC suspension provides a 'magic carpet' ride quality that handles uneven road surfaces more gracefully than the sportier, firmer setups found in its European competitors.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for this mild-hybrid inline-six typically averages around 11–12 L/100km, which is efficient for a vehicle of this size in GCC stop-start conditions. Service centers for Mercedes-Benz are extensive across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, ensuring parts and expert technicians are always accessible. As an American-spec car, it depreciates approximately 15–18% annually in the GCC market, offering a lower initial purchase price than GCC-spec units, which is a major draw for value-conscious luxury buyers.

Performance & Capability

The 367 hp turbocharged engine delivers a 0–100 km/h time of 6.2 seconds, providing effortless overtaking power on 140 km/h highways. Its 3,493 kg towing capacity is class-leading, making it highly capable for those hauling boats or trailers for weekend trips to the coast. Standard 4MATIC all-wheel drive and adjustable ground clearance via the air suspension provide extra confidence when navigating gravel tracks or sandy approach roads to desert campsites.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the seven-seat configuration features power-folding rear seats and a massive cargo volume of up to 2,400 litres with all seats down. The cabin is specifically insulated with acoustic glass to remain quiet and cool even when external temperatures exceed 45°C. Dedicated rear-seat climate zones and cooling vents ensure that passengers in the second and third rows receive the same level of comfort as those in the front, a critical factor for family harmony during GCC summers.

Safety

Standard safety equipment includes a 360° surround-view camera system and automated parking, which are invaluable for maneuvering this large SUV into tight city spaces. The full ADAS suite provides Active Brake Assist and Blind Spot Monitoring, specifically tuned to alert drivers during high-speed lane changes on multi-lane highways. Additionally, the PRE-SAFE system can detect imminent collisions and prepare the cabin by tightening belts and closing windows to protect all seven occupants.

The bottom line

This GLS450 is the perfect match for a family-oriented GCC buyer who wants a flagship German SUV with a modern mild-hybrid engine at a significantly more accessible price point than a GCC-spec equivalent. It offers the space, tech, and badge prestige required for a premium ownership experience in the region's unique driving conditions.
