MG 5 COMFORT

• 512 litres of boot capacity
• 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

Summary

This MG 5 is a practical choice for those seeking a modern sedan that prioritizes efficiency and daily usability in the GCC. While the mileage reflects a high-utilization history typical for highway commuters, the white exterior is the most sought-after color for heat reflection and resale value in the region. The Comfort trim bridges the gap between basic utility and modern tech, offering essential connectivity and driver aids that many budget rivals skip. It stands out in the compact segment by offering one of the largest trunks in its class, making it ideal for small families or airport runs. For a GCC buyer, this represents a high-spec alternative to traditional Japanese budget options at a more accessible entry point.

This Car vs Other 2022 MG 5s

At 219,000 km, this vehicle has covered significantly more distance than the average GCC annual usage of 25,000 km. While the mileage is high for a 2022 model, these figures often indicate a history of long-distance highway cruising between emirates rather than stressful stop-start city idling. The white finish remains the strongest resale color in the UAE and Saudi markets due to its superior performance in extreme summer temperatures.

COMFORT vs Lower Trims

The Comfort trim provides a significant technology upgrade over the base Standard model, most notably adding the 8-inch touchscreen with full smartphone integration. It also introduces essential GCC comfort features such as rear parking sensors and a rearview camera to simplify parking in tight urban spaces. Inside, you benefit from a higher-quality six-speaker audio system and a leather-wrapped steering wheel, which offers a more premium feel during long commutes.

MG 5 vs Segment Rivals

When compared to the Kia Pegas or Toyota Yaris, the MG 5 leads primarily in interior dimensions and cargo capacity, offering a massive 512-liter boot. It also provides a more comprehensive tech suite at this trim level than similarly priced base-model rivals. The naturally aspirated 1.5L engine is specifically tuned for a balance of city agility and highway efficiency, rivaling the fuel economy of the segment's established leaders.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption is highly competitive, officially rated at 5.5 L/100km, which keeps running costs low for high-mileage drivers. Service intervals are standard for the region at every 10,000 km, and MG has rapidly expanded its authorized service network across the UAE and KSA to ensure parts availability. While Chinese brands typically see higher initial depreciation than Japanese marques, the MG 5 has established a strong secondary market footprint in the GCC due to its popularity with fleet and high-utilization private owners.

Performance & Capability

The 1.5L four-cylinder engine delivers a smooth 118 hp, which is perfectly suited for steady highway cruising and efficient city driving. Paired with a CVT, the powertrain is designed for linear power delivery and maximum fuel savings rather than aggressive acceleration. It handles the UAE's fast-moving multi-lane highways comfortably, maintaining stability at cruising speeds while offering a tight turning circle for urban maneuverability.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is remarkably spacious for a compact sedan, featuring a clean dashboard layout and supportive fabric seating designed for long-distance comfort. The air conditioning system is robust, a necessity for the GCC climate, and the inclusion of Apple CarPlay ensures seamless navigation through local traffic. Rear seat space is generous for the segment, easily accommodating three passengers for short trips or two comfortably for cross-country drives.

Safety

Standard safety equipment on the Comfort trim includes front airbags and a suite of electronic aids such as Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and Emergency Brake Assist (EBA). It also features a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), which is vital for maintaining safety during high-temperature highway runs. ISOFIX child seat anchors are standard, making it a viable and safe choice for young families in the region.

The bottom line

This MG 5 is an ideal match for a budget-conscious commuter who needs a tech-forward cabin and class-leading boot space without the premium price tag of a low-mileage rival. It offers a modern driving experience and excellent fuel economy, making it a sensible workhorse for the GCC's long-distance highway requirements.
