Summary

This 2022 Mitsubishi Montero Sport GLS represents one of the most balanced purchases available in the GCC pre-owned market today. With mileage that aligns perfectly with the regional average for a three-year-old SUV, it has been driven enough to remain mechanically sound while staying well within its reliable service life. The GLS trim is a significant step up, offering the essential technology and comfort features that GCC families prioritize for both city commutes and long-distance weekend trips. As a GCC-spec vehicle, it provides peace of mind with a cooling system and mechanical tuning specifically designed for our extreme summer temperatures. The Grey exterior is a sophisticated choice that resists showing the fine desert dust common in this region, while also maintaining a strong resale profile in the UAE and wider GCC. For anyone seeking a rugged, seven-seater that transitions seamlessly from a professional daily driver to a capable desert explorer, this listing is a standout option.

This Car vs Other 2022 Montero Sports

When comparing this specific unit to other 2022 models on the market, the primary advantage is its balanced usage profile. At approximately 87,000 km, this vehicle has covered roughly 29,000 km per year, which is just slightly above the GCC average of 25,000 km, suggesting it has been used primarily for efficient highway travel between emirates rather than taxing stop-start city traffic. The Grey exterior is a highly strategic choice for the local market; it doesn't absorb heat as intensely as black nor does it require the constant washing that white frequently demands in dusty conditions. Being a GCC-spec vehicle, it avoids the complexities often found with American or European imports, such as incompatible radio frequencies or cooling systems not rated for 50-degree heat. This unit has clearly been maintained with the local climate in mind, ensuring all rubber seals and cooling components remain in peak condition. For a buyer looking for a transparent local history, this car offers a much higher degree of certainty than many of its contemporaries.

GLS vs Lower Trims

Choosing the GLS trim over the base GLX or mid-range variants introduces a suite of features that significantly enhance the daily driving experience in the Middle East. The GLS is distinguished by its more premium interior finish and upgraded infotainment system, which includes essential smartphone integration for navigating busy GCC road networks. One of the most critical upgrades in this trim is the inclusion of dual-zone automatic climate control with rear-specific cooling vents that are powerful enough to reach the third row, a non-negotiable feature during a Dubai or Riyadh summer. You also benefit from enhanced exterior styling, including larger alloy wheels and integrated fog lamps that provide a much more commanding presence on the road. Safety is also leveled up here, often including additional sensors and camera systems that make parking this sizable SUV in tight mall basements considerably easier. The GLS remains the 'sweet spot' for resale, as secondary buyers specifically seek out these comfort and tech upgrades when looking for a family vehicle.

Montero Sport vs Segment Rivals

The Mitsubishi Montero Sport GLS competes in a crowded segment against the likes of the Toyota Fortuner and the Nissan Terra, but it carves out a niche by offering a more refined ride and a superior 4WD system. While many rivals utilize a basic part-time 4WD setup, the Mitsubishi Super Select 4WD-II system allows you to drive in full-time 4WD on dry pavement, providing much better grip during unexpected rain showers or on gravel-strewn desert roads. Its 3.0L V6 engine provides a smoother power delivery compared to the four-cylinder engines often found in competitor base models, making highway overtaking at 120 km/h much more confident. In terms of cabin design, the Montero Sport feels more like a passenger car and less like a truck than the Fortuner, offering more supportive seating for long cross-border journeys to Oman or Saudi Arabia. Furthermore, the compact exterior dimensions relative to its massive interior space make it much easier to maneuver through the congested streets of Sharjah or downtown Jeddah compared to larger body-on-frame rivals.

Running Costs & Resale

Ownership costs for the Montero Sport are among the lowest in the SUV segment, thanks to Mitsubishi's massive authorized service network that spans the entire GCC, from Al Futtaim in the UAE to Galadari and beyond. Spare parts are readily available and affordable, which is a major factor in the car's impressively low annual depreciation rate of approximately 9-11%. Real-world fuel consumption for the 3.0L V6 averages around 10.5L per 100km on the highway, though this will increase in heavy Dubai peak-hour traffic; fortunately, the generous fuel tank allows for long range between fill-ups. Because Mitsubishi is one of the top-selling brands in the region, the resale market is extremely liquid, meaning you can typically sell this car quickly and at a fair price when it is time to upgrade. Service intervals are standard for the region, and because the mechanicals are famously robust, unplanned repairs are rare. This vehicle is a 'safe-money' choice that protects your investment over a three to five-year ownership cycle.

Performance & Capability

Under the hood lies a proven 3.0-liter MIVEC V6 engine that is perfectly suited to the demands of the GCC. It produces ample torque for towing light trailers or jet skis, a popular weekend pastime in the UAE. The standout feature is the Super Select 4WD-II system, which includes a locking center differential and various drive modes for sand, gravel, and rocks, making it a genuine weekend warrior for light desert bashing or camping in the Hajar Mountains. With a healthy ground clearance of 218 mm, you can navigate deep sand tracks and high curbs with total confidence. The 8-speed automatic transmission is a highlight, providing smooth shifts that keep the engine in its power band during highway climbs. Despite its off-road chops, the suspension is tuned to soak up road imperfections, ensuring that a four-hour drive from Dubai to Liwa doesn't leave the driver or passengers feeling fatigued. It handles the transition from smooth tarmac to rugged trail better than almost any other vehicle in its price bracket.

Comfort & Cabin

The interior of the GLS trim is designed to be a sanctuary from the harsh external environment. The three-row seating configuration is highly flexible, allowing you to fold the rear seats flat for an enormous cargo area or accommodate seven passengers for family gatherings. Mitsubishi’s air conditioning is legendary in the region for its ability to ‘chill’ the cabin in minutes, even after the car has been sitting in the direct sun at a beach parking lot. The seats are upholstered in durable materials designed to withstand the abrasive nature of sand and the wear and tear of a busy family life. Sound insulation has been improved in this model year, keeping road and wind noise to a minimum even at cruising speeds on the E11. Technology enthusiasts will appreciate the intuitive touchscreen and the multiple USB charging ports located throughout the cabin to keep the whole family’s devices powered. It is a functional, comfortable space that feels premium without being overly delicate for regional use.

Safety

Safety is a paramount concern for Mitsubishi, and the Montero Sport GLS is equipped with a comprehensive suite of active and passive systems. It holds a 5-Star NCAP safety rating, providing peace of mind for those transporting their family across the high-speed highways of the GCC. Standard features include Active Stability and Traction Control, which are vital for maintaining grip on sandy patches or during sudden maneuvers at speed. The vehicle is built with Mitsubishi's Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) body, which effectively absorbs energy in the event of a collision. ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution ensures that even when fully loaded with seven passengers and luggage, stops are controlled and short. This trim also benefits from a rearview camera and parking sensors, which are essential for safely navigating this large SUV in busy residential areas and school drop-off zones. Overall, it offers a protective environment that rivals much more expensive European SUVs.

The bottom line

For the GCC buyer who needs a dependable, off-road capable seven-seater that won't break the bank at the petrol pump or the service center, this Montero Sport GLS is the ideal choice. Its combination of a modern 2022 model year, manageable mileage, and GCC-specific engineering makes it a high-value opportunity that will hold its worth for years to come.
