Tesla Model Y STANDARD RANGE

Highlights

• 455 km electric range (WLTP)
• 175 kW peak DC charging standard
• 854 litres total cargo space including frunk

Summary

This 2022 Model Y Standard Range represents a practical entry into the Tesla ecosystem, offering a reliable rear-wheel-drive setup that is particularly efficient for city commuting. As a GCC-spec vehicle, it benefits from the full support of Tesla's growing regional service infrastructure and the dedicated Supercharger network, which is essential for travel across the Emirates. The grey exterior is a highly sought-after neutral tone in the local market, ensuring it retains its appeal at resale compared to more experimental colors. While the mileage is higher than the typical GCC average for a four-year-old car, these LFP-battery equipped models are known for their cycle durability and consistent performance in high-temperature environments. It stands out as a versatile family crossover that combines class-leading cabin technology with enough range to comfortably handle daily trips between Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

This Car vs Other 2022 Model Ys

With 168,000 km, this vehicle has been driven significantly more than the typical GCC annual average of 20,000–25,000 km. However, because it is a GCC-spec model rather than a North American import, it retains critical advantages in terms of local warranty eligibility and navigation system compatibility. The Stealth Grey finish is a high-demand resale color in the UAE, providing better value retention than rarer shades.

Standard Range vs Lower Trims

The Standard Range serves as the entry point for the Model Y but still includes premium essentials such as the expansive panoramic glass roof, the 15-inch central touchscreen, and heated seats throughout the cabin. Unlike newer base models in other markets, this 2022 trim includes the fully immersive 13-speaker premium audio system with a dedicated subwoofer as standard equipment.

Model Y vs Segment Rivals

The Model Y leads rivals like the BMW iX3 and Volkswagen ID.4 with its superior software integration and access to the exclusive Tesla Supercharger network across the GCC. Its total storage capacity, including the 117-litre 'frunk,' offers practical utility that traditional crossover conversions cannot match. The minimalist cabin design provides significantly more headroom and a flatter floor than its European competitors.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world energy consumption in GCC summer conditions typically ranges between 15 and 18 kWh/100 km, depending on AC usage. Maintenance is minimal compared to petrol rivals, with service intervals focused on cabin filters and brake fluid checks rather than costly engine overhauls. Tesla maintains the strongest resale value among EVs in the UAE, typically retaining roughly 55-60% of its value after three to four years.

Performance & Capability

The single-motor RWD setup delivers a 0–100 km/h time of 6.9 seconds, providing the instant torque necessary for confident highway merging and overtaking in fast-moving GCC traffic. With a top speed of 217 km/h and a low center of gravity, it handles with more agility than most mid-sized SUVs. The LFP battery chemistry allows for regular 100% charging without the degradation concerns typical of older lithium-ion packs.

Comfort & Cabin

The 5-seat layout is designed for maximum space, featuring a completely flat rear floor that comfortably accommodates three adults. The powerful GCC-tuned climate control system and HEPA air filtration are vital for maintaining cabin comfort during extreme summer heat and dust storms. A massive 822-litre rear boot, supplemented by the front trunk, ensures ample space for family road trips or large shopping runs.

Safety

This Model Y comes standard with the full Autopilot suite, including emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-keeping assist, which are indispensable for safety on multi-lane highways like E11. It carries a 5-star Euro NCAP rating, supported by a rigid structural design and eight airbags strategically placed to protect all five occupants.

The bottom line

This is an ideal choice for a high-mileage commuter looking to switch to electric without sacrificing the premium tech and supercharging convenience that defines the Tesla experience.
