Toyota Prado GXR

Highlights

• 271 hp from a 4.0L V6
• 150-litre fuel tank standard
• Extensive GCC authorised service network

Summary

This 2022 Toyota Prado GXR represents a standout opportunity for GCC buyers, combining remarkably low mileage for its age with the region's preferred V6 powertrain. While many listings feature the high-revving 4-cylinder, this 4.0L variant provides the necessary torque for effortless highway overtaking and desert weekend excursions. The black exterior is a perennial favorite for resale value in the UAE, especially when paired with a clean GCC specification. As a mid-spec GXR, it strikes the ideal balance between essential off-road hardware and the cabin comforts required for daily family use. In a market where high-mileage examples are the norm, this vehicle’s low usage makes it a rare find for a serious long-term owner.

This Car vs Other 2022 Prados

With only 17,500 km on the odometer, this Prado has covered significantly less ground than the typical 40,000–50,000 km expected for a two-year-old SUV in the GCC. The black exterior is a highly liquid asset in the local market, ensuring it remains a top choice for future buyers when it comes time to upgrade.

GXR vs Lower Trims

Stepping up to the GXR trim from the base EXR adds critical equipment for the Gulf climate, including tri-zone climate control for rear passenger comfort and a larger 9-inch infotainment screen. You also gain a sunroof and 19-inch alloy wheels, which provide a more planted feel on high-speed motorways compared to the 17-inch base wheels.

Prado vs Segment Rivals

Compared to the Mitsubishi Pajero or Nissan Pathfinder, the Prado offers a superior 150-litre fuel tank capacity, making it the king of long-range desert travel and cross-border road trips. Its body-on-frame construction provides a level of durability and off-road articulation that monocoque rivals simply cannot match in sandy terrain.

Running Costs & Resale

The 4.0L V6 is renowned for its reliability, with service centers available in every major city from Abu Dhabi to Riyadh. Owners can expect exceptionally strong value retention, as the Prado typically loses just 8-10% of its value annually—far better than European luxury SUVs. Real-world fuel consumption averages 12-14L/100km, which is manageable given the long-distance efficiency of the V6.

Performance & Capability

The 4.0-litre V6 delivers 271 hp, allowing for a smooth 0-100 km/h sprint in approximately 8.5 to 9 seconds, depending on conditions. With a 215 mm ground clearance and a dedicated low-range transfer case, this SUV is built to transition from city commutes to deep sand dunes without hesitation. The AWD system provides consistent traction on loose gravel and during heavy seasonal rain.

Comfort & Cabin

This seven-seater configuration is designed for family logistics, featuring a cooled center console box to keep beverages chilled during the peak of the UAE summer. The GXR cabin is well-insulated from exterior road noise, and the dedicated rear climate vents ensure every row stays cool even when temperatures exceed 45°C. A 9-inch display with wireless phone connectivity keeps you connected throughout the journey.

Safety

Safety is comprehensive on this trim, which includes seven airbags as standard—a significant upgrade over the dual-airbag setups found in base models. It is equipped with essential stability and traction control systems designed to maintain composure on sandy surfaces, along with rear parking sensors and a camera for navigating tight city parking spaces.

The bottom line

This is the perfect match for a family or enthusiast who wants a near-new V6 Prado with the peace of mind that comes from incredibly low mileage and full GCC compatibility.
