Summary

This 2023 BMW X5 M Competition represents the absolute peak of the X5 lineup, offering a level of precision and power that few SUVs can match. At 60,000 km, its mileage sits right at the expected average for a three-year-old high-performance vehicle in the GCC, suggesting it has been used as a capable daily driver rather than being left to sit in the heat. The Blue exterior is a highly desirable shade in the UAE and Saudi markets, providing a striking alternative to the more common monochromatic options and supporting strong future resale. While rivals focus on comfort, this trim is built for the driver who wants supercar levels of acceleration paired with a premium family cabin. It remains one of the most balanced performance SUVs for the region, offering a sophisticated cooling system that handles stop-start city traffic even during peak summer months.

This Car vs Other 2023 X5s

With 60,000 km over three years, this vehicle aligns perfectly with the typical 20,000 km annual average seen across the UAE. This steady usage is actually an advantage for German performance engines, which benefit from regular operating cycles rather than prolonged storage. The Blue paintwork is a strong resale asset in the GCC, as buyers often seek distinctive M-specific colors that highlight the Competition trim's aggressive styling.

M COMPETITION vs Lower Trims

The M Competition sits significantly above the M50i, featuring a bespoke M-tuned chassis, an active M differential, and an upgraded sport exhaust system that provides a much deeper tone. Inside, it adds M-specific multifunctional seats with illuminated logos and a dedicated M-mode digital interface. GCC buyers will particularly appreciate the standard four-zone climate control and the inclusion of high-performance cooling systems as standard, which are options on lower-tier models.

X5 vs Segment Rivals

When compared to the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S or the Porsche Cayenne Turbo, the X5 M Competition is often cited for its more intuitive iDrive infotainment system and superior cargo versatility. It leads the segment in daily practicality, offering 650 liters of boot space with all seats in place. Furthermore, the X5 M's air conditioning system is widely considered among the most effective for the extreme humidity and heat found in the GCC coastal cities.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption typically averages around 13.1 L/100km, though this can rise in the stop-start traffic of Dubai or Riyadh. Service intervals are managed by BMW’s Condition Based Service (CBS) system, usually prompting an oil change every 10,000 to 12,000 km at the extensive network of AGMC or Abu Dhabi Motors facilities. This model holds its value well in the local market, typically seeing a depreciation of about 12–15% annually, which is competitive for the ultra-high-performance SUV segment.

Performance & Capability

The heart of this machine is the 4.4-litre V8, capable of a 3.9-second sprint to 100 km/h, making highway overtaking effortless at any speed. Its M xDrive system is rear-biased, allowing for a more engaging driving experience while maintaining full all-wheel-drive grip for sand-blown road surfaces. Despite its track-ready credentials, it remains a capable hauler with a verified 2,700 kg braked towing capacity, suitable for jet skis or horse trailers.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is a mix of carbon fiber and high-grade leather, centered around the 12.3-inch Live Cockpit Professional display. It features standard ventilated front seats, an essential feature for GCC summers, and a massive panoramic sunroof that gives the cabin an airy feel. Road noise is exceptionally well-managed, providing a quiet environment for long inter-city drives between the Emirates or across the border to Oman.

Safety

The X5 M Competition comes standard with a comprehensive safety suite including Frontal Collision Warning, Blind Spot Detection, and a 360-degree Surround View camera system. These features are particularly useful for navigating the multi-lane highways of the GCC, where fast-moving traffic requires constant vigilance. It also includes M-specific stability control programs that provide a safety net without dulling the vehicle's legendary handling characteristics.

The bottom line

For the GCC buyer who refuses to choose between a family SUV and a supercar, this GCC-spec X5 M Competition offers the ideal middle ground with a proven service history and a high-demand color profile.
