Summary

This 2023 Chevrolet Captiva Premier is a compelling choice for families seeking a modern SUV that balances high-tier features with practical running costs. As the top-spec Premier trim, it adds a suite of technology and comfort upgrades over the standard model, while the black exterior remains a resilient and high-demand choice in the local resale market. With its current mileage reflecting typical highway-heavy use between emirates, the vehicle is well-settled and benefits from the engineering priorities of a GCC-spec cooling system. For a regional buyer, the combination of a fuel-efficient turbo engine and a spacious, tech-led cabin makes it one of the most logical commuters in its segment.

This Car vs Other 2023 Captivas

With approximately 71,576 km on the odometer, this Captiva's usage aligns with the average for a two-year-old vehicle in the GCC, where highway commuting often results in 30,000 to 35,000 km per year. The black exterior is a significant advantage for resale value in the UAE market, consistently ranking as one of the fastest-selling colors. Buyers will find this to be a well-maintained example that has already cleared its steepest initial depreciation curve.

Premier vs Lower Trims

The Premier trim significantly upgrades the ownership experience over the LT and LS by adding a 7-inch enhanced multi-color driver display and 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. Exclusive to this trim are the 360-degree camera system and front parking sensors, which are invaluable for navigating tight city parking in Dubai or Riyadh. Inside, the Premier adds a 6-way power-adjustable driver’s seat and power-folding mirrors, features that are often prioritized by GCC buyers for daily convenience.

Captiva vs Segment Rivals

The Captiva competes directly with the MG RX5 and the Hyundai Tucson, distinguishing itself with a focus on interior space and value for money. It offers a more car-like, compliant ride for city traffic compared to some of its stiffer rivals, while its 10.4-inch vertical touchscreen remains a standout tech feature in this price bracket. The Captiva’s specialized GCC-spec air conditioning system is also widely regarded for its ability to cool the cabin quickly during peak summer heat.

Running Costs & Resale

The 1.5L turbocharged engine is highly efficient for its size, achieving roughly 7.0 to 8.0 L/100km in combined GCC driving conditions. Service centers are abundant across the region through authorized dealers like Al Ghandi and Aljomaih, ensuring parts availability remains strong and affordable. In the used market, the Captiva retains roughly 70-75% of its value after three years, outperforming many of its European competitors in regional value retention.

Performance & Capability

The turbocharged 1.5-liter engine provides 149 hp and 255 Nm of torque, which is perfectly suited for smooth highway cruising and fuel-efficient city trips. The CVT transmission is tuned for comfort rather than aggressive speed, making it an ideal choice for the daily school run or inter-city commutes. While primarily a road-focused crossover, its front-wheel-drive setup and ground clearance allow it to handle gravel paths and seasonal dusty tracks with ease.

Comfort & Cabin

The interior features premium leather-appointed seating and a panoramic sunroof that adds an airy feel to the cabin. For the GCC climate, the dedicated rear AC vents are essential for passenger comfort during long drives between the Emirates. The 5-seat configuration provides a massive boot space that is ideal for family weekend trips, while the cabin is well-insulated from exterior road noise even at highway speeds.

Safety

Standard safety equipment on the Premier trim includes front and side airbags, electronic stability control, and a tire pressure monitoring system. The inclusion of an electric parking brake with auto-hold and hill-start assist provides extra security in stop-start traffic. This trim also benefits from a full 360-degree camera suite and front/rear sensors, offering a significant safety advantage when maneuvering in busy urban environments.

The bottom line

For the practical family buyer or daily commuter, this top-trim Captiva Premier offers the best balance of modern technology and proven reliability in the GCC market.
