Summary

This 2023 Chevrolet Captiva Premier is a highly practical family crossover that balances space and efficiency for the GCC market. With just over 28,000 km, its mileage is significantly below the regional average of 25,000 km per year, representing a well-preserved example. The black exterior is a safe choice for resale, while the Premier trim adds the high-tech features local buyers value most. It stands out in the segment by offering a genuine seven-seat layout at a more accessible entry point than full-sized SUVs. For those commuting between Sharjah and Dubai or across the Emirates, the fuel-sipping 1.5L turbo engine is the single biggest ownership advantage.

This Car vs Other 2023 Chevrolet Captivas

With only 28,802 km on the odometer, this Captiva has been driven considerably less than the typical 50,000 km expected for a two-year-old vehicle in the UAE. The black exterior is a high-demand color in the local market, ensuring better liquidity when it comes time to upgrade. As a Premier trim, it retains its value better than the base LS models because it carries the full technology suite that second-hand buyers prioritize.

PREMIER vs Lower Trims

The Premier trim significantly upgrades the cabin experience over the LS and LT, replacing standard displays with a 7-inch digital driver information center and a 360-degree camera system. It also features 18-inch alloy wheels, a 6-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, and an electric parking brake with auto-hold, which are essential for comfortable stop-start traffic in cities like Riyadh or Dubai. Unlike the lower trims, the Premier also includes front parking sensors and power-folding mirrors for easier navigation in tight mall parking.

Captiva vs Segment Rivals

The Captiva leads rivals like the Mitsubishi Outlander and Kia Carens by offering a more modern infotainment interface and standard turbocharged torque for easier highway overtaking. While many compact crossovers struggle with third-row access, the Captiva's clever seat-folding mechanism makes it a more practical daily driver for school runs. Its 52-liter fuel tank is optimized for the segment, providing a range of roughly 800 km on long cross-country drives.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel economy is a strong suit, averaging around 14.6 km/L in combined GCC driving conditions. Service intervals are standardized at 10,000 km or 12 months, with an extensive Chevrolet authorized service network spanning the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait. While it faces competition from Japanese brands, the Captiva's lower initial cost and high feature-per-dirham ratio result in a competitive 12-15% annual depreciation rate in the local market.

Performance & Capability

The 1.5L turbocharged engine delivers a smooth 149 hp, providing reliable performance for city commuting and stable cruising at 120 km/h on the E11. While it is a front-wheel-drive crossover intended for road use, its 177 mm ground clearance is sufficient for gravel paths and weekend trips to farm areas. The CVT is tuned for efficiency, ensuring that the engine stays in the optimal power band during heavy traffic sessions.

Comfort & Cabin

The seven-seat cabin is designed with the GCC climate in mind, featuring dedicated rear AC vents to ensure all three rows stay cool during the summer. The Premier trim features a panoramic sunroof that brightens the black interior and premium fabric-trimmed seats that remain comfortable even in extreme heat. Acoustic insulation is surprisingly good, keeping road noise to a minimum during long highway stretches between Emirates.

Safety

Safety is comprehensive on this trim, featuring four airbags and a full suite of electronic aids including Electronic Stability Control and Traction Control. The 360-degree camera and front/rear parking sensors are particularly helpful for new drivers in busy urban environments. Standard tire pressure monitoring and ISOFIX child seat anchors make it a secure choice for families with young children.

The bottom line

This is a low-mileage, top-spec family SUV that offers the best of Chevrolet’s modern tech without the premium price tag of a Tahoe. It’s the ideal upgrade for a growing family looking for GCC-spec reliability and class-leading fuel economy.
