Summary

This 2023 GAC GS4 GL offers a compelling blend of modern technology and efficiency for the GCC driver. As the range-topping GL trim, it features premium upgrades that significantly enhance daily comfort compared to the base models. Its compact footprint makes it ideal for navigating busy city traffic in Dubai or Riyadh, while the turbocharged engine provides smooth power for highway cruising. White remains the strongest resale color in the local used market, ensuring this car is as practical a financial choice as it is a daily driver. For those seeking a well-equipped, late-model SUV with a balance of performance and cabin space, this GS4 stands out in its segment.

This Car vs Other 2023 GS4s

With 120,511 km on the odometer, this GS4 has been driven more than the typical 25,000 km annual GCC average, suggesting it was primarily used for long-distance highway commutes between Emirates. This type of mileage often means less wear on the brakes and suspension compared to city-bound vehicles. The white exterior is the most sought-after color in the region due to its superior heat-reflective properties and high resale demand.

GL vs Lower Trims

The GL trim is the flagship of the GS4 range, adding essential luxury and tech features that lower trims lack. Buyers benefit from a high-definition 360-degree camera system and a power sunroof that brightens the premium leatherette cabin. Unlike the standard GS or GB trims, the GL includes power-adjustable seats and enhanced safety features like side curtain airbags, making it the preferred choice for family-oriented buyers.

GS4 vs Segment Rivals

The GAC GS4 competes directly with the Haval H6 and Changan CS75 Plus, distinguishing itself with a more refined 6-speed automatic transmission that avoids the jerkiness often found in rivals' dual-clutch systems. It leads the segment in cargo practicality with 470 litres of boot space, surpassing many similar-sized crossovers. Its fuel efficiency is also highly competitive, making it a more economical choice for daily long-distance commuting.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption averages around 6.8 L/100km, which is excellent for a turbocharged SUV in GCC conditions. GAC has established a strong authorized service network through partners like Gargash in the UAE, ensuring parts availability and consistent maintenance across the region. While Chinese brands typically depreciate faster than Japanese rivals, the GS4 has shown better value retention than many of its direct peers at the 3-year mark.

Performance & Capability

The 1.5-litre turbocharged engine delivers a punchy 166 hp and 265 Nm of torque, allowing for confident highway overtaking and brisk acceleration. The 6-speed automatic gearbox is tuned for the GCC’s high-speed highway culture, providing smooth shifts and a composed ride. Front-wheel drive ensures the vehicle remains light and efficient, though it is best suited for paved roads and light gravel rather than deep desert terrain.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for the extreme GCC summer, featuring a powerful automatic climate control system with dedicated rear vents to keep all five passengers cool. The GL trim upgrades the experience with soft-touch materials, leatherette upholstery, and heated front seats for the cooler winter months. Excellent cabin insulation minimizes road noise during high-speed highway drives, creating a tranquil environment for daily errands or weekend trips.

Safety

Safety is a priority for the GL trim, which comes standard with a comprehensive airbag suite including front, side, and curtain protection. It features an advanced Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Hill-Start Hold Control, and a tire pressure monitoring system that is vital for long-distance desert drives. The 360-degree camera and rear parking sensors provide extra confidence when navigating tight urban parking spots.

The bottom line

For a buyer looking for a modern, feature-packed SUV that handles the daily commute with ease and efficiency, this top-trim GL is an excellent opportunity to secure GAC’s flagship tech at a used-market value.
