Summary

This 2023 Honda ZR-V EX represents a smart acquisition in the GCC used market, offering a modern crossover experience with the reliability that has defined the brand in this region. The black exterior is a perennial favorite for resale in the UAE and wider Gulf, while the EX trim provides the high-specification cabin features that local buyers prioritize. Positioned between the HR-V and CR-V, it delivers a more premium, car-like driving dynamic without the bulk of a full-size SUV. For a buyer looking for a late-model Japanese crossover that balances fuel efficiency with the latest technology, this GCC-spec example is a highly logical choice.

This Car vs Other 2023 Honda ZR-Vs

With approximately 81,904 km on the odometer, this ZR-V has seen slightly higher than average annual use compared to the typical 20,000–25,000 km expected in the GCC. However, these miles are largely indicative of the long highway commutes common between Emirates, for which the ZR-V's turbocharged powertrain is perfectly suited. The black paintwork is a strong resale advantage in the local market, maintaining its value better than more niche colors.

EX vs Lower Trims

The EX trim adds several premium features over the base LX that are highly valued in the GCC, including a larger 9-inch infotainment display and an upgraded digital cockpit. More importantly for the local climate, the EX typically features upgraded seating materials and dual-zone climate control for better cabin cooling. It also includes the 'Sport' drive mode and additional parking sensors that make daily navigating in Dubai or Riyadh significantly easier.

ZR-V vs Segment Rivals

The ZR-V competes directly with the Mazda CX-5 and Toyota Corolla Cross, leading the segment in interior refinement and rear legroom. Its 1.5L turbocharged engine provides a punchier mid-range for highway overtaking than the naturally aspirated rivals commonly found in this class. While rivals might focus on utility, the Honda offers a lower center of gravity and a more sophisticated multi-link rear suspension for superior handling on paved GCC roads.

Running Costs & Resale

Fuel efficiency is a highlight, with a combined rating of 6.1 L/100km making it one of the most economical non-hybrid SUVs for city and highway use. Service intervals are generally every 10,000 km, supported by Al-Futtaim’s extensive network in the UAE and reliable authorized centers across the GCC. As a Honda, it benefits from slower depreciation than European rivals, typically retaining a high percentage of its value after the three-year mark.

Performance & Capability

The 1.5L turbocharged engine produces 180 hp and 240 Nm of torque, allowing for a smooth 0–100 km/h sprint in roughly 8.6 seconds. The 180 mm ground clearance is ample for high speed bumps and light gravel tracks common during beach or weekend campsite visits. While the front-wheel-drive system is optimized for urban efficiency, the dedicated Sport mode sharpens the CVT response for confident merging on fast-moving UAE highways.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for five passengers with a focus on 'Magic Seat' inspired versatility, offering up to 1,322 litres of cargo space with the rear seats folded. GCC-specific comfort is ensured by a robust air conditioning system and rear air vents to keep the cabin cool during summer months. The digital interface is intuitive, featuring wired and wireless smartphone integration for seamless navigation during long cross-country drives.

Safety

This EX trim comes standard with the full Honda Sensing suite, featuring Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow, which is invaluable for the stop-start traffic on Sheikh Zayed Road. The safety package also includes Lane Keeping Assist, Road Departure Mitigation, and a comprehensive 11-airbag system. For highway driving, the Blind Spot Information system provides critical alerts when navigating multi-lane GCC motorways.

The bottom line

This GCC-spec ZR-V EX is the ideal upgrade for a style-conscious professional or small family seeking Honda’s latest technology and legendary reliability in a modern, fuel-efficient package.
