Summary

This 2023 Hyundai Elantra in the popular Smart trim offers the ideal balance of modern tech and proven reliability for the GCC commuter. Finished in a high-resale Grey, this sedan stands out in the segment for its aggressive 'Parametric Dynamics' design and exceptionally low running costs. With 79,000 km, it has been driven at a typical regional average, ensuring it is well-settled for the harsh summer heat and long highway commutes between emirates. As a GCC-spec model, it benefits from a cooling system optimized for the local climate and a widespread service network that makes long-term ownership hassle-free. For anyone seeking a sharp-looking daily driver that holds its value, this Elantra is a top-tier contender.

This Car vs Other 2023 Elantras

With 79,000 km on the odometer, this Elantra sits right at the expected average for a three-year-old vehicle in the GCC, where annual highway use typically reaches 25,000 km. The Grey exterior is a significant advantage, as it is one of the most sought-after colors in the UAE and Saudi markets, consistently performing better at resale than bolder shades. This specific unit presents a balanced opportunity, offering a modern generation vehicle that has already navigated the steepest part of its depreciation curve.

SMART vs Lower Trims

The Smart trim is the sweet spot of the range, adding essential tech that the base models lack, including the 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. You also get the convenience of a rearview camera and rear parking sensors, which are vital for tight city parking in Dubai or Riyadh. Unlike entry-level versions, the Smart trim includes upgraded interior materials and alloy wheels that provide a more premium executive feel without the high maintenance costs of the top-tier luxury trims.

Elantra vs Segment Rivals

The Elantra leads the Toyota Corolla and Nissan Sunny in interior design, offering a more futuristic 'cockpit' layout that feels a generation ahead of its rivals. Its 420-litre boot provides superior practical space for airport runs and family shopping compared to many compact competitors. Furthermore, Hyundai’s air conditioning systems are specifically praised in the region for their ability to reach cabin-cool temperatures faster than many European or American segment alternatives.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel economy for the 1.6L powertrain is impressive, averaging approximately 7.0 L/100km, which translates to fewer stops at the pump during long cross-country drives. As a GCC-spec vehicle, it is compatible with standard fuel grades found across the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Hyundai retains roughly 55% of its value after three years in this market, making it a safer financial bet than its European counterparts. Authorized service centers are abundant in every major GCC city, ensuring parts are always available and affordable.

Performance & Capability

The 1.6L 4-cylinder engine produces 125 hp, providing a smooth and efficient power delivery that is perfectly suited for steady-state highway cruising at 120-140 km/h. The automatic transmission is tuned for comfort and fuel saving, making stop-start traffic in major metropolitan areas far less taxing. While not a performance car, it maintains a top speed of 189 km/h, offering plenty of overhead for safe overtaking on fast-moving regional highways.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the Elantra offers a spacious five-seat layout with class-leading legroom for rear passengers, making it a viable choice for small families. The air conditioning is engineered for 45°C+ summers, featuring dedicated vents that ensure the entire cabin stays chilled even in direct sun. The driver-centric dash keeps all controls within easy reach, while the well-insulated cabin provides a quiet refuge from wind and road noise during high-speed travel.

Safety

This Elantra comes equipped with a solid suite of safety features designed for high-speed highway environments, including Electronic Stability Control and a robust Multi-Collision Brake system. Standard safety also includes dual front airbags and ABS, providing essential protection for all occupants. The inclusion of rear parking sensors and a high-definition camera helps prevent low-speed incidents in crowded urban areas, a common requirement for daily drivers in the GCC.

The bottom line

This Elantra Smart is the perfect match for a professional or small family looking for a reliable, tech-forward sedan that won't lose its value overnight. It offers the best balance of aesthetic appeal and sensible running costs available in the market today.
