Summary

This 2023 Kia Seltos LX is a standout choice for urban commuters and small families in the GCC, offering a balanced mix of modern styling and exceptional fuel efficiency. With its 1.5-litre engine paired with a smooth automatic transmission, it is designed to handle daily traffic in cities like Dubai or Riyadh while keeping running costs remarkably low. The GCC specification ensures the air conditioning and cooling systems are built for the region's intense summer heat, a vital consideration for local buyers. As a relatively new model with average mileage for the market, it represents a strong value proposition compared to higher-priced rivals. For a buyer seeking a reliable, tech-forward crossover that retains its value well, this Seltos is a sensible and stylish investment.

This Car vs Other 2023 Kia Seltos

With 84,221 km on the odometer, this Seltos has been driven slightly above the global average but sits within the expected range for the highway-heavy driving common in the GCC. The exterior color is a neutral choice that performs well for heat reflection and maintains strong resale appeal in the local used market. Its mechanical condition benefits from Kia's reputation for durability, making it a reliable choice despite the higher mileage compared to showroom-new examples.

LX vs Lower Trims

As the starting point for the Seltos range, the LX trim focuses on providing essential modern technology including a high-resolution touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It offers 17-inch alloy wheels and a rear-view camera as standard, features that are often missing on absolute base-model crossovers in this segment. The interior is designed for practicality, utilizing durable materials that withstand the wear and tear of family use in a desert climate.

Seltos vs Segment Rivals

The Seltos competes directly with the Hyundai Creta and Nissan Kicks, leading the group in terms of overall boot capacity and rear-seat headroom. While rivals focus on smaller footprints, the Seltos uses a longer wheelbase to provide a more stable ride on high-speed UAE motorways. Its 1.5-litre engine is specifically tuned for efficiency, often outperforming the Creta in real-world fuel economy during stop-start city commutes.

Running Costs & Resale

Fuel efficiency is a primary strength, with a manufacturer-official figure of 5.7 L/100km that makes it one of the most economical non-hybrid SUVs in the region. Maintenance is straightforward and affordable thanks to Kia's massive authorized service network across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman. The Seltos enjoys strong value retention in the GCC, typically depreciating slower than European competitors in the same sub-compact crossover class.

Performance & Capability

The 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine is designed for smoothness and efficiency rather than raw speed, providing adequate power for highway overtaking and city lane-merging. With 190 mm of ground clearance, it easily manages high speed bumps and gravel tracks, though its front-wheel-drive setup is best suited for paved surfaces. The light steering makes it exceptionally easy to park in tight urban spaces, while the suspension is tuned for comfort over long-distance drives between Emirates.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is surprisingly spacious for a compact SUV, featuring a 60/40 split-folding rear seat that allows for versatile cargo configurations. The air conditioning system is specifically optimized for GCC climates, ensuring rapid cooling even after the car has been parked in direct sunlight. Occupants benefit from dedicated rear air vents and multiple USB ports, ensuring comfort and connectivity for all five passengers during summer road trips.

Safety

Standard safety equipment on the LX trim includes dual front airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) to maintain traction on sandy or rain-slicked roads. It also features a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), which is crucial for maintaining safety during high-temperature highway runs. The inclusion of ISOFIX child seat anchors and a reinforced body structure provides peace of mind for family-oriented buyers.

The bottom line

This Kia Seltos is the ideal match for a budget-conscious professional or small family looking for a modern, fuel-efficient SUV with the backing of a reliable GCC service network.
