Summary

This 2023 Kia Sportage EX offers a compelling balance of modern tech and sensible mileage for the GCC market, where annual averages often exceed 20,000 km. The EX trim is a significant step up from the base model, adding high-resolution screens and safety tech that local buyers value for highway safety. Its unique Turquoise finish provides a refreshing alternative to the standard palette, standing out in city traffic while maintaining the model's strong local reputation for durability. With its turbocharged 1.6-litre engine, it delivers better fuel efficiency for daily commutes between emirates than the larger atmospheric alternatives. This is a versatile family SUV that handles the region's summer heat with a robust cooling system and premium interior finishes.

This Car vs Other 2023 Sportages

With 50,000 km on the odometer, this Sportage sits right at the expected average for a two-year-old vehicle in the UAE. While many examples in the used market are base-spec rentals or high-mileage commuters, this EX trim offers a more premium ownership experience. The Turquoise exterior is a rare find that adds a touch of personality without compromising the car's broad market appeal.

EX vs Lower Trims

The EX trim replaces the standard 8-inch screen with a stunning 12.3-inch curved display and adds a fully digital instrument cluster, a feature highly sought after in the GCC. You also gain 18-inch machine-finished alloy wheels, a wireless phone charger, and dual-zone automatic climate control. These upgrades, along with the smart key and push-button start, significantly improve daily convenience compared to the LX.

Sportage vs Segment Rivals

The Sportage leads rivals like the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V in interior technology and screen real estate for the 2023 model year. While competitors often stick to naturally aspirated engines, the Kia’s 1.6-litre turbo provides punchier low-end torque, which is useful for merging onto fast-moving highways like Sheikh Zayed Road. Its cabin insulation is also notably improved over previous generations, rivaling the Mazda CX-5 for quietness.

Running Costs & Resale

The 1.6T powertrain is known for efficiency, averaging approximately 7.5 L/100km on long highway drives between cities. Kia’s massive service network through Al Majid Motors ensures that parts are readily available and affordable across all seven emirates. The Sportage maintains strong value retention in the GCC, typically depreciating less than its European counterparts thanks to a reputation for mechanical reliability in extreme heat.

Performance & Capability

Generating 180 hp and 265 Nm of torque, the turbocharged engine offers responsive acceleration for city maneuvers and confident overtaking at highway speeds. The front-wheel-drive setup is optimized for fuel economy and urban agility, featuring selectable drive modes including a 'Smart' mode that adjusts to your driving style. With a ground clearance of approximately 170 mm, it easily handles high curbs and gravel tracks common in developing suburban areas.

Comfort & Cabin

The interior features SynTex seating trim that remains cooler than traditional leather during the peak GCC summer. Rear passengers benefit from dedicated air conditioning vents and USB-C charging ports integrated into the front seatbacks, a thoughtful touch for family road trips. The 591-litre boot provides ample space for grocery runs or weekend stays, and the cabin is well-insulated from the external heat and road noise.

Safety

This EX trim comes equipped with an enhanced safety suite, including Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, which are essential for navigating multi-lane highway traffic. Standard features also include Lane Keeping Assist and Forward Collision-Avoidance, providing a multi-layered safety net for both city and long-distance driving. The vehicle is built with high-tensile steel to ensure maximum passenger protection.

The bottom line

Perfect for a young family or professional looking for a tech-forward SUV, this Sportage EX combines the reliability of a GCC-spec Kia with a standout color and modern digital cabin.
