Toyota Prado GXR 4.0

Highlights

• 271 hp from a 4.0L V6 engine
• 150-litre fuel tank capacity
• Extensive GCC authorised service network

Summary

This GCC-spec Toyota Prado GXR presents a compelling opportunity with mileage that sits well below the 60,000–75,000 km range typical for a three-year-old vehicle in this region. The 4.0L V6 powertrain is a favorite in the Gulf for its bulletproof reliability and highway overtaking power, outperforming the entry-level 2.7L variants. Finished in white, it occupies the most desirable color bracket for local resale, ensuring maximum value retention when it's time to upgrade. As a middle-trim GXR, it bridges the gap between rugged utility and family comfort, making it a versatile choice for both the daily school run and weekend escapes. For a buyer seeking the ultimate balance of local heritage, reliability, and modern features, this well-maintained example is a market standout.

This Car vs Other 2023 Prados

With just 42,328 km on the odometer, this vehicle has been driven significantly less than the 20,000–25,000 km annual average seen across the UAE and Saudi Arabia. While many three-year-old Prados are approaching their first major 60,000 km service milestone, this example remains in a prime early-lifecycle phase. The white exterior is the strongest resale color in the GCC market, offering better heat reflection and easier maintenance than darker shades.

GXR vs Lower Trims

The GXR trim provides essential upgrades over the base EXR, most notably stepping up to 19-inch alloy wheels and adding a powered sunroof. Inside, you benefit from a tri-zone climate control system with dedicated rear vents, which is a critical feature for passenger comfort during the peak GCC summer. It also features a larger 9-inch infotainment screen and additional safety through a 7-airbag system, compared to the dual-airbag setup found in entry-level models.

Prado vs Segment Rivals

The Prado consistently leads rivals like the Mitsubishi Pajero and Ford Everest in long-distance range thanks to its massive 150-litre fuel tank, perfect for cross-country drives between Abu Dhabi and Muscat. While the Everest offers more modern cabin tech, the Prado’s body-on-frame durability and superior air conditioning performance in 45°C+ temperatures make it the more practical choice for the local environment. Its resale value remains the highest in the segment, often retaining significantly more value than European equivalents over a three-year period.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 4.0L V6 typically ranges from 13 to 15 L/100km on the highway, rising to 18 L/100km in heavy Dubai or Riyadh traffic. Maintenance is straightforward and affordable, with authorized service centers like Al-Futtaim and Ebrahim K. Kanoo available in every major GCC city. This model is one of the slowest-depreciating vehicles in the region, typically holding 60-70% of its value even after five years of use, making it a safe financial asset.

Performance & Capability

The naturally aspirated 4.0L V6 delivers a smooth 271 hp and 381 Nm of torque, providing far more confidence during highway overtaking than the 4-cylinder versions. Its full-time Four Wheel Drive system and 215 mm ground clearance allow for reliable performance on loose sand and gravel during desert weekend trips. The 6-speed automatic transmission is geared for durability, ensuring the vehicle handles high-speed cruising at 140 km/h with ease and stability.

Comfort & Cabin

Designed for large families, this seven-seater features a versatile layout with flat-folding rear rows to accommodate extra cargo. The powerful Toyota AC system is engineered specifically for the Gulf, capable of cooling the entire cabin rapidly even after hours of sun exposure. Quiet cabin insulation reduces road and wind noise during long inter-city highway drives, while the GXR's upgraded interior materials provide a premium feel without sacrificing the vehicle's rugged workhorse utility.

Safety

This GXR trim is equipped with 7 airbags, providing comprehensive protection for all three rows of passengers. Standard safety includes Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Traction Control (TRC), which are vital for maintaining composure on sandy or rain-slicked roads. For long highway journeys, the cruise control and Hill-Start Assist provide added driver convenience, while the robust body-on-frame construction offers superior structural integrity compared to monocoque crossovers.

The bottom line

This Prado is the ideal match for a GCC family that needs a low-mileage, reliable 4x4 with the best possible resale credentials in the local market. It represents a rare chance to secure a V6 model in the most popular color before it hits its mid-life service intervals.
