Summary

This 2022 Toyota Prado GXR represents a highly durable choice for GCC buyers, particularly in this agile 2-door configuration. At four years old with 107,599 km, its mileage is average for a regional workhorse, reflecting the long-distance highway use typical of UAE and Saudi Arabian ownership. The Grey exterior is a neutral, practical choice that holds its value well in the local resale market. As a GXR trim, it balances essential ruggedness with modern conveniences, making it an ideal entry point for those who need a serious 4x4 for weekend desert excursions without the bulk of a 5-door SUV. Toyota's legendary reliability remains the primary draw, ensuring peace of mind across the Emirates.

This Car vs Other 2022 Prados

With 107,599 km on the odometer, this Prado has been driven approximately 26,000 km per year, which is consistent with typical GCC usage patterns where highway commuting between cities is common. While many 5-door family versions see school-run duties, this 2-door GXR is often sought by enthusiasts for its shorter wheelbase and superior maneuverability. The Grey finish is highly practical for the region's dusty conditions and maintains a strong resale position alongside white and silver.

GXR vs Lower Trims

The GXR trim provides a significant step up from the base EXR, most notably adding roof rails and a sunroof which are highly valued in the GCC used market. Inside, you benefit from a larger 9-inch infotainment display compared to the standard 7-inch unit, along with tri-zone climate control to ensure cabin cooling remains efficient during peak summer. This specific trim also includes upgraded 19-inch alloy wheels that provide a more commanding stance than the entry-level 17-inch versions.

Prado vs Segment Rivals

Compared to the Mitsubishi Pajero, the Prado offers superior value retention and a more robust authorized service network that spans the entire GCC, from Muscat to Riyadh. While the Nissan Pathfinder focuses more on on-road family comfort, the Prado’s body-on-frame construction and dedicated low-range gearing make it a far more capable tool for sandy terrains and wadi crossings. Its 150-litre fuel tank capacity (where equipped with the sub-tank) also provides significantly better range for long-distance desert touring.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 2.7L petrol engine typically ranges between 11.5 and 13.5 L/100km in mixed GCC driving conditions. Maintenance is straightforward, with standard service intervals at 10,000 km and a vast availability of both genuine and high-quality aftermarket parts across the UAE. The Prado remains one of the slowest-depreciating vehicles in the region, typically retaining a high percentage of its value even as it approaches the 5-year mark, making it a safe financial harbor for used car buyers.

Performance & Capability

The 2.7L engine is tuned for longevity and low-end torque, producing 164 hp and 246 Nm, which is perfectly suited for steady highway cruising and technical off-road climbs. Its 215 mm ground clearance and short 2-door wheelbase offer excellent breakover angles, allowing it to navigate dunes that often high-center longer vehicles. The Four-Wheel Drive system is a true mechanical setup, featuring a lockable center differential to ensure traction remains consistent on loose gravel and deep sand.

Comfort & Cabin

Despite its compact 2-door exterior, the cabin comfortably seats five and features Toyota's powerful air conditioning system, specifically engineered to handle 45°C+ temperatures. The GXR trim includes a cooled center console box, a must-have for keeping beverages cold during long summer drives across the Emirates. High-quality fabric seating is chosen for its durability and heat resistance, while the tri-zone climate control allows rear passengers to adjust their own airflow through dedicated vents.

Safety

This GXR trim comes standard with an enhanced safety suite including seven airbags, providing significantly better protection than the dual-airbag setup found in base models. Key active safety features include Traction Control and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), which are essential for maintaining composure on high-speed desert roads. It also features a rear-view camera and parking sensors, which are particularly helpful for navigating tight urban parking spots in Dubai or Abu Dhabi.

The bottom line

This 2-door Prado is the perfect match for the solo adventurer or couple looking for a bulletproof GCC-spec 4x4 that is as easy to park in the city as it is capable in the Liwa dunes.
