Summary

This 2023 Toyota Prado VXR is a standout choice for GCC buyers seeking the ideal balance of legendary off-road capability and top-tier cabin refinement. While the 128,000 km mileage reflects consistent highway use typical for the region, the robust 4.0L V6 engine is engineered for longevity and provides the necessary power for both desert dunes and high-speed inter-emirate travel. The VXR trim represents the premium end of the Prado range, offering a high level of technology that maintains strong resale value in the local market. Finished in high-demand Black, this vehicle is perfectly suited for families who refuse to compromise on comfort during the peak of the Gulf summer. Toyota's unmatched service network across the UAE and wider GCC ensures that long-term ownership remains both convenient and reliable.

This Car vs Other 2023 Prados

With 128,000 km, this vehicle has been driven more than the average 20,000–25,000 km typically seen annually in the GCC. However, in the local market, high-mileage Toyotas are often preferred over lower-mileage rivals because their reliability is proven, especially when used for long highway commutes between cities. The Black exterior is a top-tier choice for resale, consistently commanding a premium and attracting more buyers than unconventional colors.

VXR vs Lower Trims

The VXR trim adds significant premium features that GCC buyers value, most notably the 360-degree camera system and the upgraded leather upholstery which are not standard on the EXR or GXR. It also includes advanced Toyota Safety Sense ADAS features and a superior multi-information display, providing a more executive feel. These additions, combined with the tri-zone climate control, make the VXR a much more comfortable environment for long family road trips compared to the base fabric-seat models.

Prado vs Segment Rivals

The Prado leads the mid-size SUV segment in the GCC primarily due to its massive 150-litre fuel tank, which offers a cruising range that the Mitsubishi Montero Sport and Ford Everest cannot match. While rivals may offer more recent interior tech, the Prado’s body-on-frame construction and 4.0L V6 provide a level of durability and sand-dune performance that is the benchmark for the region. Its resale value is significantly higher than its European or American competitors, often retaining over 75% of its value after three years.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 4.0L V6 typically averages around 13 L/100km in mixed GCC driving, though steady highway cruising can see this improve to 10 L/100km. Service intervals are recommended every 10,000 km at authorized Toyota centers, which are the most widely available across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman. As a GCC-spec vehicle, it benefits from a cooling system optimized for 50°C+ temperatures and retains a higher market value than non-regional imports.

Performance & Capability

The 271 hp V6 engine is the most desirable powertrain for the Prado, offering a smooth 0–100 km/h time of approximately 8.5 seconds. Its full-time All-Wheel Drive system, paired with a center differential lock and a low-range transfer case, allows it to navigate soft sand and rugged mountain trails with ease. The high ground clearance and optimized approach angles make it a legitimate weekend warrior for desert camping trips while remaining composed on the E11 highway.

Comfort & Cabin

The seven-seat layout is highly versatile, with a third row that folds flat to accommodate large cargo for family outings. During the intense summer months, the VXR’s powerful tri-zone climate control and dedicated rear vents ensure all passengers stay cool, while the integrated cool box in the center console is a local favorite for keeping beverages chilled. High-quality leather and soft-touch materials throughout the cabin provide a refined atmosphere that insulates occupants from exterior road noise.

Safety

The VXR comes standard with a comprehensive safety suite, including seven airbags and the Toyota Safety Sense package. Key features like Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Departure Alert are particularly useful for maintaining safety during long desert highway drives. The 360-degree camera system provides essential visibility for parking in tight city spaces and navigating obstacles when off-roading, while Stability Control and Active Traction Control provide peace of mind on slippery or loose surfaces.

The bottom line

This Prado VXR is the perfect match for a GCC family looking for a reliable, high-spec SUV that holds its value and handles the extreme local climate with ease.
