Summary

This 2023 Toyota Prado VXR is a prime example of the GCC’s most trusted family off-roader, balancing everyday reliability with top-tier trim features. In a market where white is the gold standard for resale and heat management, this VXR offers immediate liquidity and long-term value. With the 4.0L V6 engine, you gain the necessary power for confident highway overtaking and desert excursions that smaller four-cylinder variants lack. The VXR trim specifically bridges the gap between a workhorse and a luxury SUV, making it the perfect choice for families who need seven-seat practicality without sacrificing premium comforts. Given the Prado's legendary status in the region, this remains one of the safest automotive investments you can make in the UAE.

This Car vs Other 2023 Prados

At 132,000 km, this Prado has been driven approximately 44,000 km per year, which is above the GCC average of 25,000 km but typical for commuters travelling between Emirates. While the mileage is higher than some city-only examples, these highway kilometers are generally easier on the 1GR-FE V6 engine and cooling system than stop-start urban traffic. The pearl white exterior is the most sought-after color in the region, ensuring this car stays cooler in peak summer and retains a higher resale premium compared to darker shades.

VXR vs Lower Trims

The VXR trim adds significant luxury and safety equipment that the EXR and GXR models lack, most notably the high-quality leather upholstery and ventilated front seats which are essential for GCC summers. It also upgrades the driving experience with 19-inch alloy wheels, LED headlamps with auto-levelling, and the full Toyota Safety Sense suite. Buyers also benefit from the factory-integrated roof rails and a premium 9-inch navigation system that provides a much more refined cabin feel than the base trims.

Prado vs Segment Rivals

Compared to rivals like the Mitsubishi Montero Sport or the Ford Explorer, the Prado leads in off-road hardware and specialized GCC cooling capacity. Its massive 150-litre fuel tank provides a significantly longer touring range for cross-border trips to Oman or Saudi Arabia than the smaller tanks found in American crossovers. While rivals may offer more modern infotainment, the Prado’s body-on-frame durability ensures it handles the region's heat and terrain with far less long-term wear.

Running Costs & Resale

The 4.0L V6 is a robust powertrain designed for 95 octane fuel, with real-world GCC consumption averaging around 13-14 L/100km depending on AC load. Toyota’s authorized service network is the most extensive in the region, with centers available in every major city from Dubai to Riyadh. Historically, a GCC-spec Prado VXR retains approximately 60-65% of its value after five years, making it one of the lowest-depreciating vehicles in the global market.

Performance & Capability

Powered by a 271 hp V6, this Prado delivers a verified 0-100 km/h time of approximately 8.8 seconds, providing ample muscle for desert dune driving and heavy highway merging. Its off-road prowess is anchored by a 219 mm ground clearance and a 700 mm wading depth, allowing for confident exploration during the rainy season or on weekend camping trips. The full-time 4WD system with a Torsen center differential and low-range gearing ensures you never get stuck where soft-roaders would struggle.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the VXR accommodates seven passengers in a tri-zone climate-controlled environment, featuring dedicated rear vents to ensure all rows stay cool in 45°C temperatures. The inclusion of a center console cooler box is a signature GCC feature, perfect for keeping drinks chilled on long desert drives. Acoustic glass and improved insulation provide a quiet sanctuary from wind noise during high-speed highway cruising across the Emirates.

Safety

This VXR trim comes standard with seven airbags and the Toyota Safety Sense suite, featuring Dynamic Radar Cruise Control and Lane Departure Alert for safer long-distance travel. The 360-degree camera system and front/rear parking sensors make navigating tight mall parking lots in Dubai effortless. Additionally, Active Traction Control (A-TRC) and Hill-start Assist provide essential stability when transitioning between paved roads and loose sand or gravel surfaces.

The bottom line

This Prado VXR is the ideal match for a GCC family seeking a high-spec, ultra-reliable 4x4 that will hold its value better than almost any other vehicle on the road.
