Summary

This two-year-old BMW X5 offers a balanced entry into the luxury SUV segment, combining the revised 2024 exterior styling with a capable six-cylinder powertrain. With 78,000 km on the clock, this vehicle has been driven extensively across highways, which is common for executive commuters in the UAE, yet it remains a fresh alternative to brand-new models. The white exterior is a strategic choice for the GCC market, known for its superior heat rejection and strong resale demand. While this is an American-spec import, it provides a high level of technology including the latest curved digital cockpit. It represents a compelling option for those seeking the prestige and driving dynamics of a modern X5 at a more accessible price point than local dealer-spec examples.

This Car vs Other 2024 X5s

With 78,000 km over two years, this vehicle sits at the higher end of the average annual mileage for the GCC, which typically ranges from 20,000 to 25,000 km. However, in the local market, high-mileage German SUVs are often indicative of consistent highway use between emirates rather than taxing city idle time. The white exterior color is the most popular choice in the region, ensuring it remains highly liquid in the used market compared to darker or more niche shades.

xDrive40i xLine vs Lower Trims

The xLine trim elevates the standard X5 with satin aluminum exterior accents and 20-inch wheels that provide a more rugged, sophisticated presence than the base sDrive40i. Inside, this trim typically adds the Sensafin dashboard and advanced driver assistance features like the 360° Surround View camera, which is essential for navigating tight parking spaces in Dubai or Riyadh. The xDrive system also provides superior traction during occasional gravel road excursions or heavy rain compared to the rear-wheel-drive base model.

X5 vs Segment Rivals

The X5 leads rivals like the Mercedes-Benz GLE and Audi Q7 in terms of infotainment technology, featuring the massive 14.9-inch Curved Display as standard for the 2024 model year. Its inline-six engine is widely regarded for smoother power delivery than the V6 units found in many competitors. While rivals focus heavily on air-suspension comfort, the X5 maintains a sharper driving feel that is well-suited for the UAE's high-speed highway network.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for this mild-hybrid 3.0L engine averages around 10.5 L/100km, performing efficiently during steady-speed drives between Abu Dhabi and Dubai. As an American-spec vehicle, buyers should note that authorized BMW service centers in the UAE may not provide the same integrated warranty or inclusive service packages as GCC-spec cars. However, a wide network of independent specialist garages across the UAE ensures parts for the G05 generation are readily available. Expect an annual depreciation rate of approximately 15% in the local market, slightly higher than GCC-spec equivalents.

Performance & Capability

This X5 reaches 100 km/h in just 5.4 seconds, providing plenty of punch for merging into fast-moving highway traffic. The 3.0L turbocharged engine produces 375 hp (standard for the 2024 refresh) and 520 Nm of torque, ensuring effortless overtaking even when fully loaded. While not a dedicated off-roader, the xDrive system and respectable ground clearance make it perfectly capable of handling sandy tracks to reach desert campsites or wadi entry points.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is centered around the BMW Curved Display and Operating System 8.5, which includes wireless smartphone integration and cloud-based navigation. Multi-zone climate control and high-quality insulation ensure the interior remains a sanctuary from the intense GCC summer heat. The five-seat configuration offers generous legroom and a 650-litre boot, making it an ideal choice for families who frequently travel long distances.

Safety

Standard safety equipment on this trim includes a full ADAS suite with Frontal Collision Warning, Active Blind Spot Detection, and Lane Departure Warning. These systems are particularly valuable on the UAE’s multi-lane highways where lane-discipline and speed awareness are critical. The 360° camera system further enhances safety by providing a bird's-eye view for easier maneuvering in crowded urban environments.

The bottom line

This 2024 BMW X5 is an ideal match for a buyer looking for the latest generation's tech and style at a significant discount. It is a smart opportunity for high-mileage commuters who value German engineering and modern cabin features over a local warranty.
