Summary

This 2024 Dodge Durango R/T represents a rare opportunity to own a nearly-new American muscle SUV with exceptionally low mileage for the GCC market. With just over 20,000 km on the odometer, it is significantly under the typical regional average, ensuring years of peak performance from its legendary 5.7L HEMI V8 engine. The R/T trim is the sweet spot for UAE drivers, offering the perfect blend of high-performance towing capability and sophisticated daily comfort. Its grey exterior is a highly sought-after shade in the secondary market, promising better value retention than more niche colors. In a segment often dominated by softer crossovers, the Durango stands out as a genuine 7-seater with the soul of a sports car. For the GCC buyer, the most important consideration is the peace of mind provided by its GCC-spec status, ensuring the cooling systems and warranty are optimized for our extreme climate.

This Car vs Other 2024 Durangos

When comparing this specific listing to other 2024 models available in the Emirates and wider GCC, the primary advantage is the exceptionally low mileage. While many SUVs in this category are used as heavy-duty family haulers covering 25,000 km or more annually, this vehicle has been driven sparingly, keeping the mechanical wear to an absolute minimum. The grey exterior finish is not only modern and sleek but is widely recognized in the local market as one of the best colors for hiding the fine desert dust and resisting the long-term fading effects of intense UV exposure. Being a GCC-spec vehicle, it avoids the common pitfalls of imported American-spec cars, such as incompatible navigation units or cooling systems not rated for 50-degree summers. This makes it a much safer and more valuable long-term asset than many other 2024 units currently listed. You are essentially getting a vehicle in showroom condition without the initial steep depreciation of a brand-new purchase.

R/T vs Lower Trims

Stepping up to the R/T trim over the entry-level SXT or mid-range GT provides a transformative change in both performance and luxury that GCC buyers prioritize. The most significant upgrade is the 5.7L V8 engine, which provides the necessary torque for effortless overtaking on fast-moving highways like the E11. Inside, the R/T replaces standard materials with a more premium cabin feel, often featuring upgraded upholstery and the superior 10.1-inch Uconnect 5 touchscreen which is significantly faster and clearer than the base units. You also gain a performance-tuned suspension and steering system that makes this large SUV feel much more planted and responsive during high-speed cruises. Furthermore, the R/T trim includes enhanced thermal management systems which are vital for maintaining engine health during the grueling GCC summer months. It is the entry point into the 'performance' family of the Durango range, offering a much higher prestige factor at the valet than the V6 models.

Durango vs Segment Rivals

The Dodge Durango R/T competes in a crowded segment against the Ford Explorer, Chevrolet Tahoe, and Toyota Highlander, yet it carves out a unique niche. Unlike the Highlander, which focuses on hybrid efficiency, the Durango offers a raw V8 experience and a much higher towing capacity of approximately 3,350 kg, making it the superior choice for those who own boats or jet skis in the UAE. While the Tahoe is larger, the Durango R/T offers a much more car-like driving experience and is significantly easier to park in the tight spaces of Dubai and Abu Dhabi malls. It provides a more aggressive, muscular aesthetic than the Ford Explorer, which many regional buyers prefer for its road presence. Additionally, its All Wheel Drive system is tuned for high-speed stability on tarmac, providing a more confident feel during sudden lane changes compared to the softer, floatier rides of its Japanese rivals. The Durango remains the only choice for the driver who needs seven seats but refuses to drive a standard family box.

Running Costs & Resale

Operating a 5.7L V8 in the GCC is more manageable than in other global markets thanks to relatively lower fuel costs, though buyers should expect a real-world average of 11.5 to 13.0 L/100km depending on city traffic density. The engine is a proven, non-turbocharged design, which historically correlates to lower long-term maintenance costs and higher reliability in high-heat environments. Service intervals are typically every 10,000 km, and Dodge has an extensive authorized service network across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, ensuring parts are always readily available. Resale value for the Durango R/T remains strong in the local market, especially for GCC-spec models which are highly prized by second-hand buyers. Historically, a well-maintained R/T trim will retain roughly 65-70% of its value after three years, outperforming many of its European competitors. The fact that this is a 2024 model with low mileage means the steepest part of the depreciation curve has already been absorbed by the first owner.

Performance & Capability

The heart of this R/T is the 360 hp 5.7L HEMI V8, delivering a 0-100 km/h sprint in the mid-6-second range, which is impressive for a vehicle of this size. This power is essential for the GCC context, where merging into 120 km/h traffic requires immediate and reliable acceleration. The All Wheel Drive system provides exceptional grip, not just for rain-slicked roads, but for the fine sand and gravel often found on the shoulders of regional highways. With a best-in-class towing capacity, it is the ideal companion for weekend trips to Jebel Ali or Yas Marina with a trailer in tow. The automatic transmission is tuned to hold gears longer in sport mode, providing a visceral exhaust note that is a signature of the Dodge brand. Despite its performance credentials, the cylinder deactivation technology allows the engine to run on four cylinders during steady-state highway cruising to Abu Dhabi, helping to conserve fuel without sacrificing power when it is needed.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the Durango R/T is designed for the long-haul comfort required for cross-emirate travel. The three-row configuration comfortably seats seven, with rear air conditioning vents that are specifically engineered to reach the third row—a critical feature for the UAE summer. The cabin insulation is top-tier, keeping the interior quiet even at high highway speeds, and the materials used in the R/T trim are soft-touch and durable. Technology is front and center with the latest Uconnect system, featuring wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, allowing for seamless navigation and media control. The front seats are designed for wide-bodied comfort, offering excellent support for long drives across the border to Oman or Saudi Arabia. Large cup holders and ample storage bins reflect its American DNA, catering perfectly to families who spend significant time in their vehicles. The grey exterior is matched by a sophisticated interior palette that remains cool to the touch even after being parked in the sun.

Safety

Safety is a paramount feature for a family-focused SUV, and the 2024 R/T comes equipped with a comprehensive suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Standard features include Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Path Detection, which are invaluable on the wide, busy highways of the GCC where lane discipline can be unpredictable. The Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop functionality makes the frequent stop-and-go traffic on Sheikh Zayed Road much less stressful for the driver. Full-speed Forward Collision Warning with Active Braking provides an extra layer of security against sudden stops in high-speed traffic. The vehicle also features a robust high-strength steel frame and an advanced airbag system that protects all three rows of passengers. Electronic Stability Control with Electronic Roll Mitigation ensures that the vehicle remains stable even during emergency maneuvers on sandy or uneven surfaces, providing peace of mind for family road trips.

The bottom line

For the family driver who wants the power of a muscle car without sacrificing the utility of a 7-seater, this low-mileage, GCC-spec Durango R/T is the smartest buy in the current market. It offers a nearly-new vehicle experience with a proven V8 powertrain that is perfectly suited for the demands of the Middle East.
