Summary

This 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse Premium represents the absolute peak of the seventh-generation S650 platform, offering a rare opportunity to own the most powerful naturally aspirated 5.0L V8 in Mustang history. With mileage currently at 42,000 km, this GCC-spec example is perfectly broken in for the region's high-speed highways, while the Grey exterior is a highly resilient and popular choice for maintaining long-term resale value in the Middle East. As the first-ever Dark Horse nameplate, this trim bridges the gap between a daily-usable GT and a track-focused beast, featuring heavy-duty cooling systems essential for the GCC's extreme summer temperatures. For a buyer seeking the ultimate American muscle car that is as comfortable on the commute between Emirates as it is capable on a track, this is the definitive choice.

This Car vs Other 2024 Mustangs

With 42,000 km in its first year, this vehicle has seen slightly higher than the typical GCC average of 25,000 km, indicating frequent highway use which is generally better for engine health than stop-start city idling. The Grey paint is a neutral, high-demand color in the local market, ensuring it remains easier to trade or sell compared to niche performance shades. As a GCC-spec vehicle, it retains full compatibility with regional service centers and has been factory-configured for high-ambient-heat cooling.

DARK HORSE PREMIUM vs Lower Trims

The Dark Horse Premium adds significant performance hardware over the GT, including a TREMEC-derived oil cooler and a unique intake manifold for its 500 hp output. Inside, the Premium trim elevates the cabin with a 12-speaker B&O sound system and ventilated front seats, which are indispensable during the Middle Eastern summer. It also features standard MagneRide adaptive dampers and 6-piston Brembo front brakes, providing a level of chassis control that lower trims lack.

Mustang vs Segment Rivals

The Mustang Dark Horse competes directly with the BMW M4 and the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, leading the segment with the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 in its class. While European rivals often rely on turbocharging, the Ford's large-displacement engine is less complex to maintain in desert heat and offers a distinctively raw acoustic signature. Its SYNC 4 infotainment system with the 13.2-inch touchscreen is also widely considered more intuitive for daily driving compared to the aging interfaces in some domestic competitors.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 5.0L V8 typically averages around 13-15L/100km in mixed GCC conditions, though highway cruising between cities can see better efficiency. Ford’s extensive service network across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait ensures that parts and expert maintenance are always accessible. As a flagship 'first edition' nameplate, the Dark Horse is expected to hold its value significantly better than standard GT models, mirroring the historical collectibility of the Boss 302 and Mach 1.

Performance & Capability

Delivering a verified 500 hp and 567 Nm of torque, the Dark Horse is engineered for sustained performance, featuring dedicated coolers for the engine, transmission, and rear differential. The 10-speed automatic transmission is tuned for rapid-fire shifts, enabling precise highway overtaking and effortless high-speed cruising. Selectable drive modes, including Track and Drag Strip, recalibrate the MagneRide suspension and active exhaust to suit everything from smooth Abu Dhabi tarmac to technical circuit driving.

Comfort & Cabin

The 4-seat cabin is anchored by a 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster and a 13.2-inch center stack that creates a cockpit-like environment. Premium materials like Miko suede and color-accented leather seats provide a luxury feel, while the dual-zone climate control and ventilated seats ensure the cabin stays cool even when outdoor temperatures exceed 45°C. The 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system delivers 900 watts of clarity, easily overcoming road noise during long-distance drives.

Safety

The 2024 Dark Horse comes equipped with the Ford Co-Pilot360 suite, featuring Pre-Collision Assist, Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) with Cross-Traffic Alert, and Lane-Keeping Assist—all vital for navigating fast-moving multi-lane GCC highways. The Brembo braking system provides immense stopping power with reduced fade, while the advanced stability control is specifically tuned to handle the high torque output on both sandy road shoulders and wet surfaces.

The bottom line

For the enthusiast who wants the pinnacle of modern American muscle with GCC reliability, this Dark Horse Premium is a rare, high-spec opportunity that won't stay on the market for long.
