Summary

This 2024 GAC Empow GL is a standout choice in the compact sedan market, offering a sharp, sporty aesthetic that rivals the segment's heavy hitters. With just two years of use and mileage that sits comfortably within the expected GCC range, it remains a mechanically fresh option for daily commuting. The black exterior is a high-demand choice in the UAE, ensuring strong resale interest when it comes time to upgrade. As a GCC-spec vehicle, it is fully optimized for the region’s extreme heat, featuring a cooling system and interior materials designed to withstand local conditions. This GL trim provides the perfect balance of performance and technology for a buyer wanting a modern driving experience without the premium price tag.

This Car vs Other 2024 Empows

At 59,960 km, this Empow has been driven roughly 30,000 km per year, which aligns with the typical highway-heavy usage patterns seen in the UAE and Saudi Arabia. While slightly above the global average, this mileage is common for two-year-old GCC commuters and reflects a car that is regularly exercised rather than sitting idle. The black exterior is a premier resale color in the local market, holding its value significantly better than more niche or vibrant shades.

GL vs Lower Trims

The GL trim is a significant step up from the base GS and mid-range GE variants, adding the full Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) suite which includes adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist. GCC buyers will particularly appreciate the addition of ventilated front seats and a power-adjustable driver's seat, which are essential for comfort during the peak summer months. It also upgrades the cabin experience with a larger digital cockpit and premium materials not found on the entry-level models.

Empow vs Segment Rivals

The Empow leads rivals like the Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic in standard tech-to-price ratio, offering a turbocharged 170 hp engine that delivers a swifter 0–100 km/h time than most base-engine competitors. Its aggressive, coupe-like styling provides a more modern road presence, while the inclusion of standard rear air vents ensures passenger comfort often missing in more basic segment alternatives. The fuel tank is sized for efficiency, making it an excellent partner for the Dubai-Abu Dhabi highway run.

Running Costs & Resale

With a verified fuel economy of 17.5 km/L, the Empow is highly efficient for its performance class, performing well in both stop-start city traffic and sustained highway cruising. Service intervals are typically set at 10,000 km, with an extensive authorized service network managed by major distributors like Gargash in the UAE and Aljomaih in Saudi Arabia. While Chinese brands face faster initial depreciation than Japanese rivals, the Empow's strong regional popularity and GCC-specific warranty support help it retain approximately 60-65% of its value after three years.

Performance & Capability

The 1.5L turbocharged engine produces a punchy 170 hp and 270 Nm of torque, enabling a 0–100 km/h sprint in just 7 seconds, which is among the best in its class. Power is delivered through a smooth 7-speed dual-clutch transmission that handles the UAE's high-speed highway merging with ease. Multiple drive modes, including a dedicated Sport mode, adjust the throttle response and steering weight to suit the driver’s preference, whether navigating tight city streets or open desert roads.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the GL trim features a driver-centric cockpit with a 10.25-inch infotainment display and a fully digital instrument cluster. The cabin is well-insulated from the exterior heat and road noise, a critical factor for long-distance GCC travel. The dual-zone climate control and dedicated rear AC vents ensure that all five passengers stay cool, while the sporty leather seats provide excellent support during longer drives across the Emirates.

Safety

The GL trim is equipped with a comprehensive safety package, featuring six airbags and a full suite of ADAS technologies. These include Forward Collision Warning, Autonomous Emergency Braking, and Lane Departure Warning, which are vital for safety on fast-moving multi-lane highways. Blind Spot Detection and Rear Cross Traffic Alert further enhance safety during urban lane changes and parking maneuvers, providing peace of mind that often comes only as an expensive option on European rivals.

The bottom line

This GCC-spec 2024 Empow GL is the ideal opportunity for a professional looking for a tech-heavy, sporty sedan that remains efficient enough for the daily UAE commute.
