Summary

This 2024 GS8 GX offers a compelling combination of full-size presence and advanced technology in the competitive seven-seat SUV market. As a two-year-old vehicle, it provides a modern driving experience with a high-output 400 Nm torque engine that makes light work of highway cruising between the Emirates. The GX trim represents the high-spec choice, featuring premium cabin materials and a comprehensive suite of digital interfaces. Finished in white, this unit carries the most sought-after color for resale in the GCC, ensuring it holds its value well. For a buyer seeking the space of a luxury flagship without the premium price tag of Japanese or European rivals, this is a highly capable family workhorse.

This Car vs Other 2024 GS8s

Compared to typical two-year-old SUVs in the GCC that often accumulate high highway mileage, this GS8 offers a chance to secure a modern, second-generation platform with up-to-date tech. The white exterior is a strategic choice for the local market, offering the best heat reflection during summer and the highest liquidity at the time of resale. While this is a Chinese-spec vehicle, it provides a feature-rich alternative to local GCC-spec units at a more accessible entry point.

GX vs Lower Trims

The GX trim significantly upgrades the cabin experience over the GL, most notably adding ventilated front seats which are essential for comfortable summer driving in the Gulf. It also steps up the technology suite with a larger 14.6-inch central screen and a 10-speaker premium audio system, creating a far more executive feel. Furthermore, the GX includes the full ADAS safety suite and 20-inch alloy wheels, giving it a more commanding road presence than the entry-level models.

GS8 vs Segment Rivals

The GS8 competes directly with the Toyota Highlander and Nissan Pathfinder, leading with a significantly larger infotainment interface and a more futuristic exterior design. Its 2.0-litre turbo engine produces 248 hp, offering punchy mid-range torque that rivals larger naturally aspirated V6 engines found in the segment. For families, the GS8 provides a wheelbase that prioritizes third-row legroom, a common pain point in many mid-size crossovers.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the AWD petrol powertrain averages approximately 12.5 km/L, which is efficient for a seven-seater during long-distance drives across the UAE. While Chinese brands generally face steeper initial depreciation than Japanese rivals, the GS8 has established a strong following in the region, helping it retain value better than earlier models. Maintenance is supported by an expanding network of specialized service centers across major GCC cities, ensuring parts for this powertrain are increasingly accessible.

Performance & Capability

With 400 Nm of torque available from low RPM, the GS8 delivers confident overtaking power on fast-moving highways like the E11. The All-Wheel Drive system provides added stability during sudden rain showers or when traversing gravel paths during weekend family outings. The Aisin 8-speed automatic transmission is tuned for smoothness, ensuring a refined ride quality that mimics much more expensive luxury SUVs.

Comfort & Cabin

The interior is a standout feature, centered around 7 seats wrapped in premium upholstery with a panoramic sunroof that brightens the entire cabin. Three-zone automatic climate control with dedicated vents for the second and third rows ensures all passengers remain cool even when external temperatures exceed 45 degrees. The acoustic glass helps maintain a quiet environment, effectively insulating the cabin from road and wind noise at cruising speeds.

Safety

Safety is comprehensive on the GX trim, featuring a full array of airbags and advanced driver assistance systems including Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keep Assist, which are highly useful for long desert highway runs. The 360-degree camera system is particularly effective in tight city parking, while Forward Collision Warning and Automatic Emergency Braking provide an extra layer of protection in fast-moving traffic.

The bottom line

This 2024 GAC GS8 GX is the ideal choice for a tech-focused family looking for a spacious, high-spec SUV that stands out from the crowd. It represents a smart buy for those who value cabin technology and modern aesthetics while benefiting from the high resale demand of a white exterior.
