Summary

This 2023 GAC GS8 GX represents the flagship experience for families seeking a premium seven-seater without the typical luxury price tag. With mileage sitting just under 60,000 km, it has been driven at a standard pace for the GCC market and benefits from being the second-generation model which introduced a significantly more refined cabin. The Silver exterior is a top-tier choice for the region, offering the best heat reflection during summer months and high resale demand in the UAE and KSA. As the GX trim, it includes the most advanced driver assistance and comfort features GAC offers, making it a sophisticated alternative to mainstream Japanese rivals. For a buyer in the Gulf, the combination of all-wheel drive stability and a feature-rich interior makes this a highly practical choice for both school runs and cross-border road trips.

This Car vs Other 2023 GAC GS8s

With 59,882 km on the clock, this GS8 has been driven roughly 30,000 km per year, which is typical for a family SUV used for daily commuting between emirates. The Silver paintwork is a strategic advantage in the GCC, as it maintains its luster better under the intense sun and remains the most liquid color for resale. Unlike many 2023 models currently on the market, this is the high-specification GX trim, offering a suite of technology that base GL models lack.

GX vs Lower Trims

The GX trim is the top-of-the-line offering, adding essential GCC comforts like ventilated front seats and a large 14.6-inch infotainment screen that replaces the smaller units found in the GL. It also upgrades the safety suite to include a 360-degree camera and a full ADAS package with Lane Keeping Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control. Furthermore, the GX features a premium 10-speaker audio system and power-folding third-row seats, providing a level of convenience that makes the GS8 feel like a genuine luxury vehicle.

GS8 vs Segment Rivals

The GAC GS8 competes directly with the Hyundai Palisade and Kia Telluride, standing out by offering similar dimensions and a 2.0L turbocharged engine that provides a balance of power and efficiency. It leads many rivals in terms of standard technology, providing a larger central display and more sophisticated lighting systems at a more accessible price point. Its wheelbase of 2920mm ensures that interior legroom is competitive, particularly for second-row passengers who benefit from reclining seats.

Running Costs & Resale

The GS8 achieves a combined fuel consumption of approximately 9.0 L/100km (NEDC), which is efficient for a vehicle of this size, especially during highway cruising between cities like Dubai and Abu Dhabi. GAC has a rapidly expanding service network across the UAE and Saudi Arabia, supported by major distributors like Gargash, ensuring parts availability and professional maintenance. Historically, the GS8 holds about 70% of its value after three years in the GCC market, performing better than many other emerging brands due to its growing reputation for reliability.

Performance & Capability

Powered by a 2.0L turbocharged engine producing 400 Nm of torque, the GS8 offers confident overtaking power on fast-moving GCC highways. The all-wheel-drive system is paired with a dedicated terrain selector featuring Sand, Mud, and Snow modes, allowing for light off-road excursions and stability on loose gravel. Its 8-speed automatic transmission provides smooth shifts, maintaining cabin refinement even when fully loaded with seven passengers and luggage.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed to combat the Gulf heat with a powerful tri-zone climate control system and ventilated seats that are essential for summer driving. High-quality materials like diamond-stitched leatherette and 32-color ambient lighting create a sophisticated environment for long-distance travel. The interior is highly flexible, with 181 liters of boot space available with all seats up, expanding to a massive 1859 liters when the rear rows are folded flat.

Safety

Safety is a priority in the GX trim, which comes standard with a full suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) including Autonomous Emergency Braking, Rear Collision Warning, and Blind Spot Monitoring for safe highway lane changes. The vehicle is built on a high-strength steel chassis and features a comprehensive airbag system protecting all three rows. Additionally, the 360-degree surround-view camera makes maneuvering this large SUV into tight city parking spaces effortless.

The bottom line

This GS8 GX is the ideal choice for a tech-savvy family looking for maximum features and space in a nearly-new vehicle that is perfectly suited for the GCC climate.
