Summary

This 2024 GAC GS8 GX represents the absolute peak of value in the modern full-sized SUV segment within the GCC. With its All Wheel Drive configuration and refined 2.0L turbocharged engine, it offers a sophisticated driving experience that rivals European luxury brands at a much more accessible price point. The black exterior is a high-demand choice in the local market, ensuring strong resale interest when the time comes to upgrade. This specific unit has been driven primarily on the region's vast highway networks, making it a mechanically sound choice for a family looking for immediate comfort and space. As a GCC-spec vehicle, it comes with the peace of mind of a cooling system and interior materials designed specifically for the intense heat of the Middle East. Choosing the GX trim ensures you receive the full suite of luxury and safety tech that makes the GS8 a standout performer in Dubai and beyond. It is the ideal solution for large families who refuse to compromise on modern aesthetics or technological integration.

This Car vs Other 2024 GS8s

When comparing this 2024 GS8 to others on the market, the mileage of 51,679 km reflects a vehicle that has been consistently utilized for long-distance regional travel, which is typical for modern families in the GCC. While some 2024 models may have lower figures, those often come from city-only driving which involves more wear on the braking and transmission systems due to stop-start traffic. This vehicle has likely spent its time on the smooth highways between emirates, ensuring the engine has operated at optimal temperatures for the majority of its life. The black exterior is one of the most resilient and sought-after colors in the UAE and Saudi markets, significantly aiding its future trade-in value compared to more niche colors. It stands as a prime example of a late-model SUV that bridges the gap between a brand-new car and a seasoned used vehicle, offering the latest design language without the initial showroom depreciation. For a buyer looking for a current-generation flagship SUV that is ready for another long cycle of ownership, this vehicle presents a mathematically superior choice.

GX vs Lower Trims

Stepping up to the GX trim is a decision that pays dividends every time you enter the cabin, as it adds several high-value features that lower trims lack. GCC buyers will particularly appreciate the enhanced climate control and seat ventilation systems that are standard on this tier, making summer driving significantly more pleasant. The GX also includes a more robust All Wheel Drive system with selectable terrain modes, providing better stability on gravel roads or sandy patches compared to the front-wheel-drive base models. You also benefit from a superior 360-degree camera system and an expanded ADAS suite, which are essential for navigating the tight parking spaces and busy multi-lane highways of the GCC. The interior materials are upgraded to more premium surfaces, and the inclusion of a panoramic sunroof adds an airy, luxurious feel to the cabin that lower trims simply cannot match. By choosing the GX, you are securing the features that secondary market buyers specifically look for, which helps maintain a higher residual value over the life of the car.

GS8 vs Segment Rivals

The GAC GS8 competes directly with established players like the Toyota Highlander, Nissan Pathfinder, and Kia Telluride, yet it carves out a unique niche by offering more standard technology for a lower entry price. While rivals often reserve their most advanced driver assistance features for their most expensive trims, the GS8 GX includes them as standard, making it a smarter financial choice for tech-savvy families. Its 2.0L turbocharged engine is specifically tuned to deliver 248 horsepower, providing a punchy and responsive feel that is often missing from the naturally aspirated V6 engines found in some competitors. The GS8 also boasts a modern, boxy design that maximizes interior head-room, offering a more spacious feel in the third row compared to the sleeker, more cramped profiles of European-style crossovers. For the GCC buyer, the GS8's air conditioning system is a particular highlight, engineered to maintain cabin temperatures even when the external environment exceeds 45 degrees Celsius. It offers a combination of bold road presence and interior refinement that is usually only found in vehicles costing twice as much.

Running Costs & Resale

Ownership costs for the GAC GS8 are impressively manageable within the GCC context, thanks to a 2.0L engine that balances power with reasonable fuel efficiency. In typical Dubai or Riyadh city traffic, you can expect stable consumption, while highway cruising allows the turbo-four to sip petrol at a much lower rate, benefiting from the efficient automatic transmission. GAC has invested heavily in its GCC presence, with established service centers across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, ensuring that parts and expert maintenance are never far away. The brand's reputation for reliability has grown rapidly, leading to a depreciation curve that is now much more competitive with traditional Japanese and Korean rivals. Typically, a GS8 in the GCC will retain its value well at the three-year mark, as there is high demand for well-maintained, high-spec Chinese SUVs in the secondary market. Because this is a GCC-spec vehicle, it avoids the insurance and warranty complications often associated with American or European imports, making it a safe long-term investment. Regular service intervals are standard for the segment, and the simple, robust engine design keeps long-term maintenance costs predictable.

Performance & Capability

The heart of this SUV is its 248 hp turbocharged engine, which provides ample torque for confident highway overtaking and merging into fast-moving GCC traffic. The All Wheel Drive system is intelligently managed, shifting power between the front and rear wheels as needed to provide maximum traction on slippery or uneven surfaces. With a 0-100 km/h time that is competitive for its class, the GS8 feels surprisingly agile for a vehicle of its size, making it just as capable in the city as it is on long-distance treks. The suspension is tuned for comfort, absorbing the minor imperfections of the road while maintaining enough composure for stable high-speed cruising between emirates. For weekend adventurers, the generous ground clearance allows for light off-road exploration, such as accessing remote campsites or navigating gravel tracks with ease. Various drive modes allow the pilot to tailor the throttle response and steering weight to the environment, whether that is an eco-conscious commute or a more spirited drive on the open road. It is a versatile performer that understands the diverse driving requirements of the Middle Eastern landscape.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the GS8 GX is designed to be a sanctuary from the harsh outdoor environment of the GCC, featuring a cavernous 7-seat layout that doesn't feel cramped even when fully occupied. The first and second rows offer exceptional legroom, while the third row is genuinely usable for teenagers or smaller adults, making it a true family car. High-quality materials are used throughout the cabin, with soft-touch surfaces and an ergonomic layout that places every control within easy reach. The air conditioning system is exceptionally powerful, with dedicated vents for all three rows to ensure every passenger remains cool during the peak of summer. Technologically, the cabin is dominated by a large, high-resolution infotainment screen that integrates seamlessly with your devices, complemented by a premium sound system. Sound insulation is another strong suit, with the GS8 doing an excellent job of filtering out wind and tire noise for a quiet, conversational atmosphere at highway speeds. Whether it is a quick school run in the morning or a five-hour drive across the border, the interior is built to provide a stress-free experience.

Safety

Safety is a paramount consideration in the GS8 GX, which comes equipped with a comprehensive suite of active and passive systems designed to protect all seven occupants. The vehicle features an advanced ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) package, including adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist, which are incredibly helpful for maintaining safety on long, straight desert highways. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alerts provide an extra layer of security when maneuvering in busy urban environments or multi-lane junctions. The chassis is constructed with high-strength steel, earning it a 5-star safety rating in rigorous crash testing, providing peace of mind for family-focused buyers. Multiple airbags are strategically placed to provide 360-degree protection, and the electronic stability control system is calibrated to handle the unique challenges of sandy or dusty road surfaces. Unlike many competitors that charge extra for these features, GAC has made safety a standard priority in this trim, ensuring you have the best protection available the moment you drive away.

The bottom line

This 2024 GAC GS8 GX is the perfect match for a GCC family that wants the luxury and technology of a 2024 model without the brand-new price tag. It is a highly capable, high-spec SUV that is ready for immediate daily use and weekend adventures across the region.
