Summary

This 2024 Suzuki Baleno GLX represents a strategic buy for GCC commuters, offering the highest available tech suite in a remarkably efficient package. Finished in Midnight Black—a color with consistently high demand in the regional used market—it avoids the rapid depreciation typical of European rivals. As the top-spec GLX, it bridges the gap between budget hatchbacks and premium compacts with features like a 360° camera that are rare in this segment. Given Suzuki's massive service footprint across the UAE and Saudi Arabia, long-term ownership is straightforward and cost-effective. This specific car is a versatile daily driver that balances modern cabin tech with the reliability required for the local climate.

This Car vs Other 2024 Suzuki Balenos

With 106,888 km, this vehicle reflects active use common for commuters traveling between emirates, yet it remains well within its primary mechanical lifespan. While many 2024 models in the market carry lower mileage, they often command a significant price premium; this car offers a modern model year and the flagship GLX trim at a more accessible entry point. The Midnight Black finish is a significant advantage for resale, as it remains one of the top three most requested colors in the GCC used market.

GLX vs Lower Trims

The GLX trim is a major step up from the base GL, adding high-value features that GCC buyers prioritize, such as the 360° surround-view monitor and a pop-up head-up display. Exterior upgrades include 16-inch polished alloy wheels and LED projector headlamps, while the interior gains six airbags compared to just two in the base model. It also features automatic climate control and a larger 9-inch infotainment screen with smartphone integration, making it feel like a much more premium vehicle.

Baleno vs Segment Rivals

The Baleno leads competitors like the Toyota Starlet and Mitsubishi Mirage by offering a more advanced tech suite, specifically the head-up display and 360° camera which are unique in this class. Its 1.5-litre engine provides a better balance of highway merging power and fuel efficiency than smaller-displacement rivals. Additionally, the Baleno offers a more generous 318-litre boot capacity, making it a more practical choice for small families or weekend errands.

Running Costs & Resale

Running costs are among the lowest in the segment, with a manufacturer-official fuel economy of 19 km/L, which performs exceptionally well in stop-start traffic in Dubai or Riyadh. Service intervals are typically every 15,000 km, and Suzuki's authorized service network is one of the most extensive across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, ensuring parts are always affordable and available. The Baleno holds its value well in the GCC, typically retaining approximately 85-90% of its value in the first year due to Suzuki's reputation for 'bulletproof' reliability.

Performance & Capability

Powered by the K15B 1.5-litre engine, the Baleno delivers a reliable 103 hp, enough for confident highway cruising and efficient city commuting. The 4-speed automatic transmission is engineered for durability in high-temperature environments, providing a smoother experience in heavy traffic than complex dual-clutch systems. With a tight 10.2-meter turning circle, it is exceptionally easy to maneuver through crowded urban areas and narrow parking garages.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed to maximize space, offering surprisingly generous rear legroom for a hatchback of this size. The GLX trim includes rear AC vents, a critical feature for passenger comfort during the peak GCC summer months. The 9-inch touchscreen serves as the hub for the 360° camera system, while the acoustic insulation helps keep the cabin quiet during high-speed highway drives.

Safety

This GLX trim is equipped with a comprehensive safety package including six airbags (front, side, and curtain), whereas most compact hatchbacks only offer two. Key active safety features include Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) and ABS with Brake Assist, which provide vital stability on sandy or rain-slicked roads. The addition of rear parking sensors and the 360° camera significantly reduces the risk of low-speed collisions in tight urban parking environments.

The bottom line

For the buyer seeking a modern, high-spec daily driver with the lowest possible running costs, this GLX Baleno is a standout choice. It offers premium technology usually reserved for luxury segments while maintaining the legendary reliability of the Suzuki brand in the GCC.
