Toyota Hilux SGLX

Highlights

• 3,500 kg braked towing capacity
• 80-litre fuel tank standard
• Extensive GCC authorised service network

Summary

This 2024 Toyota Hilux SGLX is a high-value entry into the current-generation lineup, offering a nearly-new ownership experience with just over 23,000 km on the clock. In the GCC market, where annual averages often hit 25,000 km, this mileage is comfortably low for its age, ensuring plenty of life remains in its robust 2.4L turbodiesel engine. The Black exterior is a perennially strong resale color in the UAE, maintaining its appeal far better than niche shades. As an SGLX trim, it bridges the gap between a workhorse and a lifestyle vehicle, featuring the essential comfort upgrades that GCC buyers demand. For anyone seeking the legendary durability of a Hilux without the premium price of a 4.0L V6, this GCC-spec diesel is the most sensible choice for long-term value retention.

This Car vs Other 2024 Hiluxs

With 23,175 km, this Hilux sits slightly below the typical first-year average for utility vehicles in the GCC, which are often used for cross-border hauls or heavy site work. While many 2024 models on the market are either 'zero-meter' imports or high-mileage fleet units, this example represents a well-maintained personal or light-commercial middle ground. Its Black paintwork is a strategic advantage for resale, consistently ranking as a top-three color for buyer demand in the local used market.

SGLX vs Lower Trims

The SGLX trim is a significant step up from the base GLX and GL variants, adding features that are essential for the GCC's hot climate and long drives. It replaces basic steel wheels with premium 17-inch alloys and upgrades the cabin with a modern touchscreen infotainment system and a rear-view camera. Most importantly for regional buyers, the SGLX includes enhanced interior materials and a more refined dashboard finish, making it feel less like a tool and more like a daily driver.

Hilux vs Segment Rivals

When compared to the Mitsubishi L200 or the Isuzu D-Max, the Hilux leads with its superior resale value and the sheer density of Toyota’s service network across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman. Its 80-litre fuel tank provides a significant range advantage over several rivals, making it the preferred choice for those driving between emirates or into remote desert areas. The availability of genuine parts in even the smallest GCC towns gives it an edge that competitors simply cannot match.

Running Costs & Resale

The 2.4L diesel engine is a champion of efficiency, typically returning between 7.5L and 8.5L/100km depending on load and GCC highway speeds. Maintenance is straightforward with 10,000 km service intervals, supported by Al-Futtaim in the UAE and similar authorized distributors throughout the region. Historically, the Hilux suffers the lowest depreciation in its segment, often retaining up to 85% of its value after the first three years. This GCC-spec model is particularly valuable, as it avoids the warranty and cooling-system complications often found with non-regional imports.

Performance & Capability

With a 3,500 kg braked towing capacity, this Hilux is ready for heavy-duty trailers, boats, or equipment. The 147 hp engine is tuned for low-end torque, providing 400 Nm that makes highway overtaking and sand driving feel effortless despite the vehicle's size. The selectable Four Wheel Drive system with a high/low range transfer case ensures it can handle weekend desert excursions and soft sand as easily as it handles graded roads. Its body-on-frame construction is designed specifically to withstand the vibration of corrugated tracks and the stresses of off-road use.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for five occupants with an emphasis on durability and GCC-specific cooling. The air conditioning system is famously powerful, capable of dropping cabin temperatures quickly even after the car has been parked in 45°C heat. SGLX models feature rear cooling vents, a vital addition for passenger comfort during the summer months. Practicality is further enhanced by a cooled glovebox or center console area to keep drinks chilled during long desert drives.

Safety

Standard safety equipment on this SGLX includes front and driver-knee airbags, providing essential protection in a collision. It is equipped with Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Hill-start Assist Control (HAC), which are particularly useful when navigating steep dunes or slippery surfaces. For highway safety, it features ABS and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), ensuring controlled stopping power even when the bed is fully loaded or a trailer is attached.

The bottom line

This GCC-spec Hilux SGLX is the perfect balance for a buyer who needs a bulletproof workhorse that doesn't compromise on daily comfort. With low mileage and a high-demand color, it is a low-risk investment with the best resale prospects in the UAE pickup market.
