Summary

The 2025 BYD Leopard 5 Ultra represents the new frontier of off-road performance in the GCC, combining a ladder-frame chassis with a powerful dual-motor hybrid system. This Ultra trim sits at the top of the range, offering the sophisticated DiSus-P hydraulic active suspension that significantly enhances both desert capability and highway stability. Silver is a highly practical choice for the region's climate, offering excellent heat reflection and maintaining strong resale value in the pre-owned market. While rivals rely on traditional displacement, the Leopard 5 uses instant electric torque to conquer dunes and fast-moving highway traffic with equal ease. For a GCC buyer, this is a unique opportunity to own a tech-forward SUV that bridges the gap between a rugged explorer and a premium daily commuter.

This Car vs Other 2025 Leopard 5s

As a 2025 model, this vehicle benefits from the latest DMO hybrid platform refinements and updated battery thermal management crucial for extreme summer temperatures. With minimal usage, it offers a significant advantage over high-mileage examples often found in the secondary market after heavy desert use. The Silver exterior is one of the most sought-after colors in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, ensuring it stays cooler in direct sun and holds its value better than darker alternatives.

ULTRA vs Lower Trims

The Ultra trim is the only variant equipped with the DiSus-P hydraulic body control system, allowing you to increase ground clearance to 310 mm for serious off-roading. Inside, it upgrades the experience with a dedicated 12.3-inch passenger entertainment screen, a premium 18-speaker Devialet audio system, and Nappa leather upholstery. It also features the front and rear electronic differential locks as standard, whereas lower trims may only offer a rear lock.

Leopard 5 vs Segment Rivals

The Leopard 5 directly competes with the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado and the GWM Tank 500. It leads the segment in raw performance, with its 680 hp output and sub-5 second acceleration time dwarfing the typical outputs of its 4-cylinder and V6 rivals. Its 1,200 km combined range is a major asset for long-distance cross-border drives between Emirates or into Oman and Saudi Arabia.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption is approximately 8.2L/100km when the battery is depleted, though daily commutes can be done entirely on electricity thanks to the 125 km EV range (CLTC). BYD’s growing partnership with Al-Futtaim in the UAE and Saudi Arabia ensures an expanding network of authorized service centers and a robust parts supply chain. The 2025 models are showing strong value retention due to the high demand for high-performance hybrids that offer lower fuel costs without sacrificing desert capability.

Performance & Capability

A total system output of 680 hp and 760 Nm of torque provides sports-car levels of acceleration, which is exceptional for a mid-size SUV. The electric 4WD system delivers instant torque to all four wheels, making it more responsive than mechanical systems when climbing soft sand dunes. Its adjustable suspension also allows for a wading depth of up to 790 mm, providing confidence during the region's heavy seasonal rain and urban flooding.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for GCC summers, featuring standard ventilated front seats and a high-performance climate control system with rear-seat vents. The 'Smart 5-Screen' configuration creates a high-tech environment, including a massive 15.6-inch central display and a 50-inch head-up display. Excellent NVH insulation ensures a quiet, premium environment even when cruising at high highway speeds across the desert.

Safety

The Ultra trim comes with a comprehensive ADAS suite including adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and a 360° camera with a 'transparent chassis' view for technical off-roading. It features a body construction made of 96% high-strength steel and a full array of airbags for maximum passenger protection. These active systems are particularly valuable on fast-moving GCC highways where lane-keeping and emergency braking provide an extra layer of security.

The bottom line

This Leopard 5 Ultra is the ideal choice for a tech-savvy buyer who wants the performance of a supercar and the off-road hardware of a professional crawler in one hybrid package. With the top-tier suspension and premium Devialet audio, it offers a level of refinement that traditional 4x4s in this price bracket cannot match.
