Summary

This 2026 BYD Leopard 5 Ultra is a technical powerhouse that bridges the gap between a high-performance EV and a traditional body-on-frame 4x4. As the flagship Ultra trim, it features the advanced DiSus-P hydraulic suspension that remains a significant draw for GCC buyers looking for both highway refinement and off-road poise. Its black exterior is one of the most resilient colors for local resale, offering a timeless look that holds value well across the Emirates. For those transitioning from thirsty V8s, this hybrid offers sports-car acceleration with the efficiency needed for the daily commute. Owning a high-spec model in the GCC means enjoying cutting-edge technology before wide regional release, supported by an increasingly robust network of specialist service centers.

This Car vs Other 2026 Leopard 5s

With delivery mileage of only 100 km, this vehicle is essentially brand new and represents the absolute current peak of BYD's off-road engineering. Typical GCC use for a vehicle of this class is 20,000 km annually, meaning this example offers a significant 'time-capsule' advantage for the buyer. The black finish is a high-demand choice in the regional used market, ensuring faster resale and better value retention than brighter launch colors.

ULTRA vs Lower Trims

The Ultra trim is the flagship specification, adding the crucial DiSus-P Intelligent Hydraulic Body Control system which allows for adjustable ride height and superior damping on rough terrain. Inside, it upgrades the experience with Nappa leather upholstery, ventilated and massaging front seats, and a 12.3-inch passenger entertainment screen. It also features a high-end 18-speaker Devialet audio system and a factory-fitted refrigerator, features that are often optional or unavailable on base variants.

Leopard 5 vs Segment Rivals

The Leopard 5 competes directly with the Land Cruiser Prado and Defender, leading them significantly in standard tech and straight-line performance. Its 1.5L hybrid setup delivers acceleration that rivals high-displacement V8s while maintaining a 1,200 km total range, making it ideal for cross-border trips where fuel stops are infrequent. The inclusion of three differential locks and a dedicated low-range mode gives it genuine parity with established off-road icons.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel efficiency is exceptional for a 2.9-tonne SUV, with the ability to cover up to 125 km on pure electric power for city commuting. Maintenance is simplified as the DMO platform is designed for durability in high-heat environments, with service intervals typically recommended every 10,000 km. While depreciation for premium Chinese imports is slightly higher than Japanese brands initially, the Ultra's unique tech and 4x4 hardware support strong demand in the UAE's active used SUV market. Authorized service is expanding rapidly across major cities like Dubai and Riyadh.

Performance & Capability

A combined output of 680 hp allows for a 0–100 km/h sprint in just 4.8 seconds, ensuring effortless overtaking on fast-moving UAE highways. Off-road, the vehicle offers a massive 310 mm of ground clearance and a 700 mm wading depth, perfect for weekend expeditions in Liwa or the Empty Quarter. The DMO platform includes multiple terrain modes such as Sand, Mud, and Rock, which electronically manage torque to provide maximum traction on soft dunes.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is a sanctuary from the GCC summer, featuring high-capacity air conditioning and ventilated seating for both the driver and front passenger. Acoustic glass and premium insulation keep the interior quiet during high-speed desert highway cruising. The flat-folding rear seats and spacious 5-seat layout make it highly practical for family camping trips or school runs, while the onboard refrigerator keeps drinks chilled during long summer drives.

Safety

Safety is paramount with a full ADAS suite including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automatic emergency braking, which are particularly useful for long-distance desert drives. The 360-degree camera system with a 'transparent chassis' view provides essential visibility when navigating tricky rocky terrain or tight parking spots. Additionally, the high-strength steel body-on-frame construction provides a robust safety cell for all occupants.

The bottom line

This Leopard 5 Ultra is the ideal choice for a tech-forward buyer who refuses to choose between supercar-level speed and genuine desert-crossing capability. It represents a rare opportunity to own a flagship-spec, delivery-mileage hybrid SUV that is perfectly adapted for the unique demands of GCC driving.
