Summary

This 2026 Coolray GL is a compelling opportunity, showing just 9,116 km on the odometer—exceptionally low for its first year in the GCC market. Its Grey exterior is a highly sought-after, neutral tone in the UAE, ensuring strong resale demand and excellent heat reflection during peak summer months. As a modern subcompact crossover, it successfully bridges the gap between efficiency and punchy performance, outperforming many naturally aspirated rivals in the same segment. For a buyer looking for a near-new vehicle without the initial showroom depreciation, this GCC-spec GL trim provides the essential turbocharged driving experience that has made the model a local favorite.

This Car vs Other 2026 Coolrays

With just 9,116 km, this car has covered less than half the distance of a typical GCC vehicle in its first year, where annual averages often reach 25,000 km. This exceptionally low mileage effectively preserves the mechanical life of the turbocharged engine and 7-speed DCT. The Grey exterior is a top-tier choice for the region, balancing aesthetic appeal with high resale liquidity in the used market.

GL vs Lower Trims

The GL trim serves as the essential gateway to the model's performance, featuring the same 174 hp 4-cylinder turbo engine found in flagship models. While it focuses on value, it retains the core driving dynamics and smooth wet-clutch DCT that GCC buyers prioritize for highway overtaking. It offers a more focused cabin experience compared to higher trims, omitting complex electronic aids in favor of straightforward, reliable daily utility.

Coolray vs Segment Rivals

The Coolray leads many of its rivals, such as the MG ZS and Hyundai Creta, by offering a much punchier 290 Nm of torque, which is immediately noticeable on UAE's fast-moving highways. Its shared architecture with European luxury platforms provides a level of high-speed stability that many budget-focused competitors in this segment lack. Additionally, the 1.5L turbo provides a better balance of power-to-weight than the larger, naturally aspirated engines found in some Japanese counterparts.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel economy is impressive, averaging 6.5 L/100km, which is particularly beneficial for long-distance commutes between Emirates. Authorized service centers are widely available across the UAE and Saudi Arabia via established distributors like AGMC and Wallan, ensuring parts are never a concern. Geely models currently enjoy a competitive depreciation rate in the GCC, typically holding about 80-85% of their value after the first year, significantly better than older Chinese entrants.

Performance & Capability

The 1.5-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine delivers a class-leading 0–100 km/h time of 7.6 seconds, making it feel surprisingly agile in city traffic. While designed primarily for urban environments, the 180mm ground clearance is more than enough for gravel tracks and weekend escapes to the wadis. The 7-speed dual-clutch transmission is specifically tuned to handle the high-heat stop-start traffic typical of Dubai and Riyadh.

Comfort & Cabin

The 5-seat cabin is designed with the GCC summer in mind, featuring a high-output air conditioning system and rear cooling vents as standard. Acoustic insulation has been significantly improved for this model year, keeping the interior quiet even at 120 km/h on the E11 highway. The 330-litre boot provides ample room for the weekly grocery shop, and the flat-folding rear seats allow for 1,054 litres of total cargo space when needed.

Safety

Standard safety features on the GL include front and side airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) which is crucial for monitoring heat-related pressure changes in the desert. The braking system utilizes ventilated discs to ensure consistent stopping power during high-speed highway driving. ISOFIX anchor points are standard, making it a safe and practical choice for small families.

The bottom line

For the GCC buyer seeking a virtually new turbocharged crossover with low mileage and a strong resale color, this GCC-spec 2026 model represents the best balance of modern tech and proven reliability available today.
