Summary

This 2026 Toyota Hiace GL offers the ideal balance of passenger capacity and mechanical simplicity, featuring the sought-after 2.8L turbo-diesel engine paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. As a GCC-spec model, it is factory-prepared for extreme local temperatures with an enhanced cooling system and high-output rear air conditioning. The white exterior is the highest-demand color in the regional used market, ensuring significantly stronger value retention than darker alternatives. For business operators or large families, this van remains the gold standard for long-term reliability and low maintenance costs across the Emirates. Its rear-wheel-drive layout and high-torque diesel powertrain make it perfectly suited for both urban shuttle duties and long-distance highway hauls between cities.

This Car vs Other 2026 Hiaces

While many 2026 models in the market utilize the 3.5L petrol engine, this diesel variant is the preferred choice for high-utilization fleets due to its superior torque and lower running costs. The white exterior is a strategic advantage for GCC buyers, offering the best heat reflection and highest resale liquidity in the region. Being a brand-new model year, it carries the full benefit of Toyota’s latest structural safety reinforcements and updated cabin tech.

GL vs Lower Trims

The GL trim bridges the gap between the utilitarian DX and the luxury-oriented Commuter variants, adding essential comfort features like body-colored bumpers and chrome grille accents. Inside, the GL upgrades the experience with rear air conditioning registers, higher-quality fabric seating, and a multi-function steering wheel that includes audio and telephone controls. It also features a superior 4-speaker audio system compared to the 2-speaker setup found in base commercial units.

Hiace vs Segment Rivals

Compared to the Nissan Urvan or Ford Transit, the Hiace leads significantly in GCC-wide parts availability and specialized service expertise. Its 2.8L diesel engine offers a more robust torque profile for heavy passenger loads than the Urvan's naturally aspirated alternatives. Furthermore, the Hiace historically commands the highest resale percentage in the UAE van segment, making it a safer financial asset for business fleets.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel efficiency for the 2.8L diesel is approximately 8.3 L/100km on combined cycles, though this can vary between 9.1 L/100km in stop-start city traffic and 7.8 L/100km on long highway stretches. Maintenance follows a standard 10,000 km interval, supported by the most extensive authorized service network in the GCC, including Al-Futtaim in the UAE and Abdul Latif Jameel in Saudi Arabia. Toyota Hiaces typically depreciate by only 8-10% annually, outperforming European rivals by a wide margin.

Performance & Capability

The 2.8L 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel produces 420 Nm of torque, which is critical for maintaining highway speeds when fully loaded with 9 or more passengers. The 6-speed manual transmission provides the driver with direct control over the power band, which is particularly useful for overtaking on regional highways. With a rear-wheel-drive configuration, the Hiace maintains stable handling and predictable traction even under heavy payload conditions.

Comfort & Cabin

Configured with 9+ seats, the GL cabin is designed for group logistics without sacrificing passenger comfort. The dual-zone air conditioning system is specifically tuned for the Arabian summer, ensuring that even the rearmost passengers receive direct airflow through dedicated ceiling vents. Modern connectivity is addressed via an integrated 8-inch touchscreen that supports smartphone mirroring, essential for professional drivers utilizing navigation apps.

Safety

Standard safety equipment on the 2026 GL trim includes an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Brake Assist and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) to prevent skidding on sand or gravel-strewn road shoulders. Passive safety is managed by dual front SRS airbags and a reinforced semi-bonnet design that provides a larger crumple zone than older cab-over models. Hill-Start Assist Control (HAC) is also included, preventing backward roll on inclines, which is vital for heavy-duty passenger transport.

The bottom line

For the GCC buyer seeking the most reliable and high-resale passenger van on the market, this 2.8L diesel GL in white represents a bulletproof investment with zero mechanical compromise.
