Summary

This 2026 GR Yaris is the rare automatic variant of Toyota's homologation-born hot hatch, delivering serious performance in a compact, grey-finished package. Unlike many rivals, this car was engineered specifically to meet WRC rules, featuring a bespoke chassis and the world’s most powerful production three-cylinder engine. For the GCC buyer, this specific listing represents a nearly-new opportunity to own a cult-status vehicle that bridges the gap between a daily commuter and a weekend track weapon. With the regional-spec cooling systems and Toyota's legendary reliability, it is perfectly suited for the intense heat and high-speed highway traffic of the Emirates. It stands out as a unique investment, offering the mechanical soul of a rally car with the ease of an 8-speed direct automatic transmission.

This Car vs Other 2026 Yaris

While a standard Yaris is a cost-effective commuter, the GR is a ground-up performance rebuild sharing only its name and lights. This specific listing features low mileage relative to the 25,000 km annual average for GCC drivers, ensuring the specialized mechanical components remain in peak condition. The grey exterior is a highly desirable, neutral tone in the regional market, offering a sophisticated look that typically supports stronger resale than louder, niche colors.

GR vs Lower Trims

Moving to the GR trim replaces the standard front-wheel-drive hybrid system with the sophisticated GR-FOUR all-wheel-drive platform and Torsen limited-slip differentials. Inside, it adds a 12.3-inch digital cockpit and Alcantara-trimmed sport seats that are not available on the Yaris Sport or base models. The 8-speed automatic includes a dedicated ATF cooler and launch control, hardware specifically designed to handle the thermal demands of spirited driving in the Gulf.

Yaris vs Segment Rivals

Against rivals like the Volkswagen Golf R or Honda Civic Type R, the Yaris leads with its compact wheelbase and lower curb weight, offering superior agility on tighter technical roads. Its 50-litre fuel tank provides a competitive range for a car of this size, making the long drives between Abu Dhabi and Dubai more manageable than other high-strung hot hatches. The GR-Four system offers a rear-biased torque split that provides a more engaging, rally-inspired feel than its front-biased European competitors.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption averages roughly 9.1L/100km, though this increases in heavy stop-start city traffic in Riyadh or Dubai. The car requires premium 98 RON fuel to maintain its high power output and engine longevity in the regional climate. Toyota’s authorized service network is the most extensive in the GCC, with parts widely available across all six member states. Historically, the GR variant has shown exceptional value retention, often depreciating at half the rate of premium European hatchbacks due to its limited production and cult following.

Performance & Capability

The 1.6L turbocharged engine delivers a remarkable 296 hp, launching this hatchback to a limited top speed of 230 km/h. The 8-speed automatic transmission is tuned for rapid, direct shifts, ensuring high-speed highway overtaking is effortless even in summer temperatures. Drivers can toggle between Normal, Gravel, and Track modes, which mechanically adjust the torque split to suit different surfaces across the region's diverse terrain.

Comfort & Cabin

The four-seat interior is focused on the driver, featuring a cockpit tilted 15 degrees for better ergonomics and a 25mm lower seating position than previous models. While the 174-litre boot is compact, the rear seats fold flat to accommodate larger items or track-day gear. The dual-zone climate control is a GCC-spec high-output system, ensuring the Alcantara cabin remains chilled even when outside temperatures exceed 45°C.

Safety

Standard safety features include the full Toyota Safety Sense suite, offering adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist for relaxed long-distance desert highway driving. The car is equipped with a 360-degree view through its digital displays and blind-spot monitoring, which are essential for navigating multi-lane UAE motorways. High-performance braking is managed by large 356mm ventilated discs with red GR-branded calipers for consistent stopping power.

The bottom line

This 2026 GR Yaris is the ideal choice for the enthusiast who wants a rally-bred performance icon that is easy to drive daily in the GCC. It combines low depreciation and Toyota's massive service network with a driving experience that rivals supercars for pure engagement.
