Summary

This 2027 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ GXR arrives as a modern retro icon, blending the heritage of the legendary FJ40 with contemporary everyday usability. Finished in Grey, this compact SUV offers a unique combination of a rugged ladder-frame chassis and a manageable footprint perfect for both city commuting and weekend escapes. Its 2.7L naturally aspirated engine is built for bulletproof long-term reliability rather than outright speed, making it an ideal choice for owners who prioritize low maintenance and mechanical simplicity. As a GXR trim, it brings essential tech upgrades like the 12.3-inch display and 360° camera that are highly valued in the local market. For a GCC buyer, this represents the most accessible entry point into the Land Cruiser family without sacrificing the off-road hardware needed for desert driving.

This Car vs Other 2027 Land Cruiser FJs

With this being the latest 2027 model year, this vehicle offers the most up-to-date software for its 12.3-inch infotainment system and the newest revisions to its safety suite. In the GCC market, where annual mileage often exceeds 25,000 km, this factory-fresh example provides a significant head start on service life. The Grey exterior is a versatile, neutral choice that holds its appeal well in the regional used market.

GXR vs Lower Trims

The GXR trim adds significant value over the base EXR by including a 360-degree surround-view camera system and synthetic leather upholstery, both of which are major priorities for UAE buyers. It also steps up to larger 18-inch dark-grey alloy wheels and adds a power-adjustable driver's seat, improving daily comfort during long commutes between emirates. These features significantly enhance the vehicle's appeal and resale potential compared to the more basic fabric-seat versions.

Land Cruiser FJ vs Segment Rivals

Compared to the Suzuki Jimny 5-Door, the Land Cruiser FJ offers a vastly superior cabin width and a more powerful 2.7L engine that feels significantly more stable at the 140 km/h highway speeds common in the UAE. While the Ford Bronco Sport uses a unibody construction, the FJ retains a traditional body-on-frame ladder chassis, providing the heavy-duty durability required for frequent desert excursions. Its 63-litre fuel tank also offers a more practical cruising range for long-distance desert crossings compared to smaller-segment competitors.

Running Costs & Resale

The 2.7L 2TR-FE engine is one of the most widely used powerplants in the GCC, shared with the Hilux and Fortuner, ensuring that spare parts are available in almost every corner of the region. Real-world fuel consumption typically sits between 10.5 and 12.5 L/100km, which is standard for a boxy 4x4 in stop-start traffic. Toyota's extensive authorized service network across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait guarantees low maintenance hassle, while the Land Cruiser badge ensures some of the highest value retention rates in the global used car market.

Performance & Capability

With 245 mm of ground clearance and a 700 mm wading depth, the Land Cruiser FJ is built for genuine technical off-roading. The part-time 4WD system allows the driver to manually switch between H2 for efficiency, H4 for loose surfaces, and L4 low-range for steep dunes or rocky terrain. While the 164 hp output is tuned for reliability and low-end torque rather than 0-100 sprints, the standard rear differential lock provides the mechanical grip necessary to handle soft sand that often leaves crossovers stranded.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the FJ features a modern 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and a 7-inch digital instrument cluster. The cabin is specifically designed for the GCC climate with a powerful air conditioning system and dedicated vents to keep the five-passenger interior cool during peak summer heat. Synthetic leather seats and well-placed knee pads for off-roading ensure that the interior is both durable enough for weekend adventures and comfortable enough for the daily school run or executive commute.

Safety

This GXR trim comes equipped with the full Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 suite, including Dynamic Radar Cruise Control and a Pre-Collision System, which are essential for safety on high-speed desert highways. A total of seven airbags provide comprehensive protection for all occupants, while the 360-degree camera and front/rear parking sensors make navigating tight urban parking spaces effortless. Features like Downhill Assist Control (DAC) and Hill-start Assist (HAC) add an extra layer of security when tackling steep off-road inclines.

The bottom line

This 2027 Land Cruiser FJ GXR is the ideal choice for a buyer who wants a brand-new, iconic 4x4 with modern tech and legendary reliability, all in a size that is as comfortable in downtown Dubai as it is in the Liwa dunes.
