Nissan Patrol Y62 vs Y63: Which Should You Buy In The UAE?

The Nissan Patrol Y63 replaced the hugely successful Y62 after more than a decade on the market. For UAE buyers, however, choosing between them is not as simple as buying the newer model.

The Y63 is faster, more advanced and more efficient. The Y62 counters with a proven platform, a naturally aspirated V8 and much lower used prices. A late-model Y62 can now cost considerably less than a new Y63, making this as much a new-versus-used decision as a generational comparison.

Price: The Y62 Has A Major Advantage

This is probably the most important part of the comparison. 

The 2026 Nissan Patrol Y63 currently starts at AED 239,900 for the XE 3.8L. The 3.5-litre twin-turbo range starts with the LE T1 at AED 297,900, while higher trims move beyond AED 300,000. The Patrol NISMO sits at the top at AED 449,900.

Meanwhile, the used Y62 market is considerably cheaper.

Current DubiCars listings include 2024 GCC-spec Y62 models from around AED 170,000, while V8 LE Platinum examples are listed around AED 230,000 and upwards depending on mileage, specification and condition.

That means a buyer could potentially choose between a used 5.6-litre V8 Y62 and a new entry-level 3.8-litre Y63 for similar money.

• Value winner: Y62

Engine & Performance: V8 Character vs Twin-Turbo Punch

The Y62’s 5.6-litre naturally aspirated V8 produces 400hp and 560Nm, paired with a seven-speed automatic gearbox.

The Y63’s 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 produces 425hp and 700Nm, paired with a nine-speed automatic.

The numbers clearly favour the Y63. It produces 140Nm more torque, which is noticeable during overtaking, climbing dunes or accelerating with passengers and luggage.

Nissan also states that the twin-turbo V6 improves fuel efficiency by around 24% compared with the outgoing engine.

However, the Y62’s appeal is not purely about performance figures. Its naturally aspirated V8 delivers predictable power and has been used extensively across the GCC for years.

For some buyers, especially those keeping the car long-term, familiarity with the Y62’s engine, transmission and supporting mechanical components carries real value.

What About The Base V6?

• The argument for the Y62 weakens if you compare V6 versions.
• The old 4.0-litre Y62 produces 275hp and 394Nm.

• Although peak torque is slightly lower, the Y63 has 41hp more and a more modern transmission.
• For buyers specifically shopping for a V6 Patrol, the Y63 is therefore a much easier recommendation.

Daily Driving & Refinement

The Y63 feels like the newer vehicle when used every day. The nine-speed gearbox provides more ratios, the cabin is quieter and selected twin-turbo variants gain adaptive suspension. The newer Patrol also feels more modern on Sheikh Zayed Road or on long drives between Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

The Y62 remains comfortable, especially in higher LE trims, but it can’t hide its age when driven back-to-back with the Y63. The Y63 is also more powerful without requiring the driver to work the engine as hard.

Fuel & Driving Range

Neither Patrol should be bought with fuel economy as the main priority. However, the Y63 twin-turbo engine is more efficient than the outgoing V8, which becomes important for drivers covering 20,000km or more every year.

This is one of the clearest Y63 victories. Late Y62 models already offered plenty of equipment, but the Y63 moves the Patrol into a different era.

Size & Practicality

Interestingly, the wheelbase remains 3,075mm on both generations. However, the Y63 grew to approximately 5,205mm long and 2,030mm wide, around 35mm longer and 35mm wider than its predecessor. Nissan also increased cargo capacity compared with the Y62.

Both can seat up to eight occupants, but the Y63 makes better use of the available cabin and offers easier third-row access and more modern seat-folding arrangements.

For larger UAE families regularly using the second and third rows, the Y63 is the more practical choice.

Off-Road: Is The Y63 Actually Better?

This section is more complicated. The Y62 offers up to 273mm of ground clearance, low-range gearing, a rear differential lock and selectable terrain modes. It also has one of the largest modification and off-road aftermarket ecosystems in the UAE.

The regular Y63 has around 253mm of ground clearance according to our first-look measurements, although selected versions use adaptive air suspension that can change the vehicle’s ride height.

The Y63 also gains significantly more torque. Its 700Nm twin-turbo engine is a major advantage when climbing dunes. For serious off-road buyers, there is also the dedicated Nissan Patrol PRO-4X, which adds off-road-focused hardware and calibration.

However, buyers planning substantial suspension, wheel, tyre or performance modifications may still find the Y62 more attractive because the UAE tuning community has had more than a decade to develop parts and setups for it.

Safety

The Y62 gained useful driver-assistance systems over its life, particularly in higher later-model trims. The Y63 goes much further.

Which Y62 Should You Buy?

For most buyers, a 2022–2024 GCC-spec Y62 V8 is the sweet spot. The 5.6-litre V8 is what makes the older Patrol genuinely different from the Y63. It combines 400hp with the established Y62 platform, while later model years also offer improved infotainment and safety equipment.

The LE T2 offers a strong balance of V8 performance and equipment, while LE Titanium and Platinum variants suit buyers wanting more luxury. The 4.0-litre V6 only becomes especially attractive when the purchase price is substantially lower.

Which Y63 Should You Buy?

The 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 is the Y63 powertrain worth stretching for. The LE T1 starts at AED 297,900 and already provides the full 425hp and 700Nm output. Buyers can then decide how much extra luxury equipment they actually need rather than automatically moving to the Platinum.

For serious off-road use, the PRO-4X deserves consideration. For maximum road performance, the 495hp Patrol NISMO sits at the opposite end of the range.

Buyers mainly interested in the Y63’s new cabin, space and safety technology without needing 425hp can consider the 3.8-litre SE variants.

Buy The Y62 If:

• Choose the Y62 if value matters most.
• A clean late-model V8 offers strong performance, excellent desert capability and plenty of equipment for substantially less than many new Y63 variants.
• It also makes sense for buyers who specifically want the 5.6-litre naturally aspirated V8 or plan to modify their Patrol for desert use.

Buy The Y63 If:

• Choose the Y63 if you want the better all-round vehicle.
• It has a stronger twin-turbo engine, a newer gearbox, better efficiency, more cabin technology, improved safety systems and greater refinement.
• It is the better option for buyers purchasing a Patrol as a new family SUV and planning to keep it for several years.

Best Value: Nissan Patrol Y62 5.6 V8

A clean 2022–2024 GCC-spec Y62 V8 with a full service history is currently one of the more interesting ways to buy a Patrol in the UAE. It delivers much of what people traditionally like about the Patrol while avoiding the Y63’s higher purchase price.

Best Overall: Nissan Patrol Y63 3.5 Twin-Turbo

The Y63 is objectively the more capable and complete modern SUV. The jump to 425hp and 700Nm, along with the improved cabin, safety technology and refinement, makes it a substantial generational upgrade.

Ultimately, the Y63 is the better Patrol, but the Y62 can be the smarter buy.

For a buyer with around AED 180,000–250,000, a late Y62 V8 deserves serious consideration. Once the budget moves closer to AED 300,000 and above, the newer Y63 twin-turbo becomes much easier to justify.
