Toyota & Lexus Takata Airbag Recall In The UAE: Affected Models & Free Repair

Al-Futtaim Toyota and Lexus have launched a renewed safety campaign in the UAE urging owners of vehicles affected by the Takata airbag recall to have their cars repaired as soon as possible.

Called “Don’t Risk It, Fix It”, the campaign targets owners who have not yet responded to previous Takata airbag recall notices. Affected vehicles can receive a replacement airbag inflator completely free of charge at authorised Al-Futtaim Toyota and Lexus service centres across the UAE.

The recall itself is not new. Takata airbags have been involved in one of the largest automotive safety recalls globally, affecting vehicles produced by several manufacturers.

Why Are Takata Airbags Being Recalled?

The issue involves certain Takata airbag inflators. Over time, the propellant inside affected inflators can deteriorate, particularly following prolonged exposure to high temperatures and humidity.

If an affected airbag deploys, excessive pressure can potentially cause the inflator to rupture. This may send metal fragments into the vehicle’s cabin and create a serious risk of injury to occupants.

The UAE’s hot climate makes it particularly important for owners of older affected vehicles to check whether the required repair has already been completed.

A car may otherwise drive normally without showing any warning signs related to the affected airbag inflator.

Toyota Models Affected By The Takata Recall In The UAE

Al-Futtaim Toyota is asking owners of the following models and model years to check their Vehicle Identification Number, or VIN:

• Toyota Alphard: 2002–2017
• Toyota Corolla: 2003–2010
• Toyota Sequoia: 2002–2017
• Toyota Yaris Hatchback: 2005–2008
• Toyota Yaris: 2005–2011
• Toyota RAV4: 2003–2005

Being within one of these model-year ranges does not automatically mean a particular vehicle needs repair. Owners should check the individual vehicle’s VIN to confirm its recall status.

Lexus Models Affected By The Takata Recall In The UAE

Lexus owners have also been asked to check vehicles falling within the following ranges:

• Lexus ES350: 2006–2011
• Lexus GX460: 2010–2016
• Lexus IS Convertible: 2010–2015
• Lexus IS350/250: 2006–2012
• Lexus LS-F: 2011–2013
• Lexus RX: 2016–2017
• Lexus SC430: 2001–2009

The VIN remains the most reliable way of determining whether an individual vehicle is affected.

Takata Airbag Replacement Is Free

Al-Futtaim confirmed that it will replace the defective airbag inflator free of charge for affected Toyota and Lexus vehicles.

The recall repair carries no service fees or additional charges, and eligibility does not depend on the vehicle’s age or ownership history. This means owners who purchased an affected Toyota or Lexus as a used car can still have the recall work completed at no cost.

Technicians at authorised Al-Futtaim Toyota and Lexus service centres in the UAE carry out repairs.

How To Check Your Toyota Or Lexus

Owners can check their vehicles in three steps:

1. Check the VIN: Enter the vehicle’s 17-digit VIN on the official Toyota UAE or Lexus UAE recall website.
2. Book the repair: Schedule an appointment online or contact Toyota on 800 23668677 or Lexus on 800 53987.
3. Complete the replacement: Take the affected vehicle to an authorised Al-Futtaim Toyota or Lexus service centre.

You can usually find the 17-digit VIN on the vehicle’s registration card, or Mulkiya, and on the vehicle itself.

Should Used Toyota & Lexus Owners Check Their Cars?

Yes. The campaign specifically makes the repair available regardless of ownership history, making the recall relevant to buyers and current owners of older used Toyota and Lexus models in the UAE.

Owners should not assume that a previous owner completed the recall repair. Checking the VIN confirms whether the vehicle has an outstanding Takata airbag recall.
