Al Khail Road Traffic Improvement Project In Dubai Budgeted At AED 700 Million

Dubai’s transportation network is set for a significant improvement with the Al Khail Road Improvement Project. The project led by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has been budgeted at AED 700 million.

This new project addresses the growing traffic congestion and travel time concerns on this vital artery, a key corridor connecting various areas within the city. It aims to significantly improve traffic flow and reduce travel times by 30% on this corridor.

RTA also plans to introduce a flying taxi service by 2026 in Dubai. This world’s first service will further help in easing the traffic congestion. Read this linked article for more details.

Al Khail Project Details

Construction of Five New Bridges

Strategically constructing these bridges across seven key locations along Al Khail Road will span a total length of 3,300 meters. They will address existing traffic bottlenecks and enhance connectivity between various areas.

  • Zabeel: A three-lane bridge (700 meters) will link traffic from Zabeel Palace Street and Oud Metha Road directly onto Al Khail Road towards Abu Dhabi. Additionally, surface roads will be improved to connect traffic heading towards Sheikh Zayed Road from Al Khail Road.
  • Meydan: A two-lane bridge (610 meters) will connect traffic from Al Meydan Road onto Al Khail Road towards Deira. Surface improvements will also be implemented to connect traffic from Al Khail Road to Ras Al Khor Road.
  • Al Quoz 1: A two-lane bridge (650 meters) will link traffic from Al Meydan Road onto Al Khail Road towards Abu Dhabi. Surface road improvements will enhance connectivity to Al Waha Street and Latifa bint Hamdan Street.
  • Ghadeer Al Tair: A two-lane bridge (640 meters) will connect traffic from Latifa bint Hamdan Street onto Al Khail Road towards Deira. Surface road improvements will connect traffic from Al Khail Road to Al Meydan Road.
  • Jumeirah Village Circle: A two-lane bridge (700 meters) will connect traffic from Al Khail Road to Hessa Street. Surface road upgrades will improve connectivity from Jumeirah Village Circle to Al Khail Road towards Deira.

Surface Road Improvements

To enhance overall traffic flow and user experience, the project will upgrade a total of 6,820 meters of surface roads across all seven locations.

Existing Road Expansion

To accommodate the growing traffic volume, the project will add a new lane:

  • Al Jaddaf: This additional lane will improve traffic flow in the direction of Deira.
  • Business Bay Entrance: This extra lane will ensure smoother traffic flow to Business Bay from Al Khail Road in the direction of Abu Dhabi.

Al Khail Project Details Benefits

  • Increased traffic flow by an estimated 19,600 vehicles per hour.
  • Elimination of traffic overlapping at flyovers, leading to smoother traffic flow.
  • Reduced travel times by 30%, significantly improving the commuting experience.

This project builds upon the success of the previous Al Khail Road Improvement Project completed in 2012. At the time, the project had transformed roundabouts into flyovers and widened the road to six lanes in each direction. RTA is confident in replicating the success of the previous project on the ongoing new Al Khail road improvements.
