Horses, snakes, big cats, fish and marine mammals have inspired some of the world’s most recognisable cars. In many cases, the animal name reflects qualities such as speed, strength or agility.

Here are 10 famous cars with animal-inspired names, along with two honorary mentions.

Ford Mustang

Animal: Mustang horse

The Ford Mustang is one of the best-known animal-linked car names in the world. The Mustang is a free-roaming horse strongly associated with the American West, and the galloping horse badge became central to the car’s identity. Interestingly, Ford’s historical material also links the original name to the P-51 Mustang fighter aircraft.
