Eye tests are mandatory in the UAE in to obtain or renew a driving license, but as of this week and the current global situation, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) have announced an eye-test is no longer required.
Already in effect, drivers can apply for a one-year online copy on the RTA Dubai app and Dubai Drive App. You can also try the RTA website.
For one year renewal, the fee is AED 300 + AED 20 knowledge fee.
In order to renew, you need to hold a valid Emirates ID. Visit visa holders can’t renew their license online.
No matter what violations or black points, online license renewal will be valid of one year from the date of application.
Previously, the Ministry of Interior also put out a statement allowing drivers to renew their license using the smart application. This is only applicable for driving licenses that expire over the next three months.
