First the Aventador SV went topless, then the German’s decided to cut the roof off an S-Class, then Rolls Royce presented the Dawn, what next? Well here’s your answer, Lamborghini Huracan Spyder. Making headlines and jaws drop since its unveiling in Frankfurt just a few days ago.

Lamborghini Huracan LP 610-4 SpyderThe biggest news of all is that unlike its elder fire-spitting monsters (Aventador & Aventador SV), its roof can be recessed automatically and it’s made from fabric instead of carbon fibre. To operate the fabric roof, its a simple push of a button, no need for fiddling around and asking oneself how this panel fits into the tiny boot space up front.

It folds away behind the seats in just 17 seconds, this can be achieved at a maximum speed of 50 km/h. Not as quick as some but they don’t look as seductive as this!

The roof is not the only addition, fins have been added behind each seat. Latest technological advancements have been implemented such as an upgraded ‘cylinder-on-demand’ system. What’s that you may be asking? When travelling at low speeds, not all the cylinders will be used thus saving the driver not only petrol but money too, obviously power is reduced during this time. It’s an automated system, as soon as you ‘floor it’, all cylinders thunder back to life. Lamborghini has adjusted the electronically controlled all-wheel drive (AWD) system for a better handling experience.

Lamborghini Huracan LP 610-4 SpyderThree colours are available for the roof: Black, Red and Brown. All work perfectly with Lamborghini’s official colours for the Huracan.

Spyder’s are powered by the same power unit as tin-top versions. A 5.2 litre 10 cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine (which is a dying breed in this day in age) producing 610 horsepower. The drivetrain is AWD and the vehicle can propel itself from 0-100 in just 3.4 seconds. Slightly slower then the closed top version but that’s what weight does.

What competition does it have on the road you may wonder? As always Ferrari is right in the mix with their Ferrari 488 Spider and a Briton joins in with the Mclaren 650S Convertible.

As always, numerous accessories for the vehicle are available online and dealerships for example: steering wheel, car and seat covers, a battery maintainer, a car care kit and more. All are official and branded with the Golden Bull.

As with all cars that receive cabrio/roadster/spyder/spider variants, whatever you want to call it treatment, weight is added to the undercarriage in order to stop the chassis from twisting or flexing. It weighs in at a dry weight of 1,542 kg, 120 kilos heavier than non-convertible Huracan’s.

Lamborghini Huracan LP 610-4 SpyderLast time we saw a soft-top Lamborghini was the Gallardo Spider which made its debut in 2011 and lasted till the end of the production cycle of said car in 2014. Comparing the two soft-tops, Lamborghini has created a 40% stiffer chassis.

2016 Lamborghini Huracan Spyder LP-610-4’s are expected to arrive in early 2016, keep your eyes peeled on dubicars.com as no doubt one or two should appear around that time or earlier.
