Next-Generation Ferrari Hypercar Ditches V12 Engine — New V6-Powered Ferrari Flagship To Be Launched In 2025

The next-generation Ferrari Hypercar has been spotted testing near the brand’s factory at Maranello in Italy. Not much is known about the next Ferrari Hypercar, but it surely has to be more powerful than the last flagship Hypercar which is the La Ferrari. This does mean the output has to be over 1,000hp but does it have to be powered by a  V12 engine? Apparently not!

Ferrari is one of the most iconic automotive manufacturers in the world. It is one of the most well-known brands in the history of the world and has a reputation for developing and manufacturing some of the fastest and most exotic cars in the world.

Ferrari Heritage & Its Departure From The V12 Engine

The very first Ferrari car was the 125S, which was powered by a 1.5-litre V12 engine. Despite being small in capacity, the engine featured 12 cylinders and this is where Ferrari’s tryst with the V12 engine began. Over the decades to come, Ferrari would launch several Grand Tourers, Sports Cars, Supercars, and even Hypercars, all powered by V12 engines.

Most of the legendary Ferrari cars were powered by V12 engines. The list includes names like 599 GTB, 250 GTO, F50, 812 Competizione, Testarossa, Purosangue, etc. Some believed that V12-powered Ferraris would never see the end of the road. However, things have changed drastically since those days.

Ferrari F40

Ferrari has in recent times successfully downsized its engine size without losing out on power thanks to turbocharging. In fact, Ferrari’s cars are now more fuel efficient than ever before, they put out less pollution than ever before and they are still extremely powerful. This departure from the V12 engine on its road-going cars isn’t very surprising.

However, what will take Ferrari purists aback is the fact that the next Ferrari Hypercar will be powered by a V6 engine! Ferrari’s first flagships – 288 GTO & F40 – were powered by V8 engines. Later flagships like the F50, Enzo, and LaFerrari all came with mighty V12 engines. Now, with its latest hypercar, Ferrari might opt for a V6 instead.

Dubbed the F250, the latest Ferrari Hypercar is slated to be launched in 2025. Keeping with the timeline, it is now being tested and a recent video on YouTube channel Varryx has revealed the hypercar testing in its camouflaged guise. The new Ferrari Hypercar sounded like a V6.

This isn’t a baseless assumption though. Ferrari has been racing with V6 engines in Formula 1 for a few years now and more recently, the 499P Le Mans Hypercar also received the V6 treatment. In addition, the roadgoing Ferrari 296 GTB and its GT3 racecar sibling are also powered by V6 engines.

Given how the entire automotive industry is headed towards environment-conscious motoring, this V6 move isn’t a big surprise at all. If you’re one of the V12 or V8 purists, this move might hurt. However, if fast Ferrari cars are all you care about, this is good news.

The V6 engine in the 499P Le Mans car is limited to 680hp because of regulations. However, Ferrari will certainly open up the taps in the road-going hypercar. The Ferrari LaFerrari had an output of 963hp and 900Nm. The upcoming F250 is certain to have more than 1,000hp under the driver’s right foot.

Production of the new F250 is slated to begin in 2025 and the production run will be limited to under 1,000 units over a four-year production run.
