Lexus LS400 STANDARD 1996 | US Credit card accepted!

Highlights

• Naturally aspirated 4.0L V8 engine
• 85-litre fuel tank
• Strong value retention in the GCC used market

Summary

This 30-year-old Lexus LS400 represents a rare opportunity to own one of the most durable luxury sedans ever engineered. While the mileage sits at 184,000 km, this is significantly below the typical annual average for a vehicle of this age in the GCC, where 20,000 km per year is standard. The white exterior is the most sought-after resale color in the region, offering superior heat reflection and long-term value. As an American spec model, it provides the full executive experience that defined Lexus's global rise, though buyers should note that parts availability remains excellent through local specialist networks. This is a choice for the enthusiast who prioritizes mechanical over-engineering and long-distance highway refinement.

This Car vs Other 1996 LS400s

With 184,000 km on the odometer, this LS400 has averaged roughly 6,000 km per year, which is exceptionally low for the UAE and wider GCC market where these cars are often driven over 300,000 km. Most 1996 models available locally show significantly higher wear due to their reputation as 'million-mile' commuters. Finding an example with this mileage-to-age ratio is a distinct advantage for collectors or daily drivers.

STANDARD vs Lower Trims

The LS400 was sold in a highly inclusive single trim in the American market, meaning this 'Standard' trim actually includes features that were optional on rivals. It comes equipped with genuine California Walnut wood trim, a premium 7-speaker audio system, and dual-zone automatic climate control. These features were specifically designed to maintain cabin comfort in extreme climates, a major plus for GCC summers.

LS400 vs Segment Rivals

Compared to 1996 rivals like the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W140) and the BMW 7 Series (E38), the LS400 is significantly more reliable and cheaper to maintain in the Gulf region. Its naturally aspirated V8 is less complex than the German equivalents, and its 85-litre fuel tank provides a superior cruising range for long-distance trips between cities like Dubai and Muscat. The Lexus cabin was also benchmarked to be the quietest in its class, measuring just 58 dB at 100 km/h.

Running Costs & Resale

Lexus enjoys legendary status for value retention in the GCC, depreciating far slower than its European luxury counterparts. Real-world fuel consumption averages around 12.5L/100km, which is expected for a 4.0L V8 in stop-start traffic. While this is an American spec vehicle, the shared mechanical DNA with GCC-spec models ensures that parts are readily available at most major auto malls across the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

Performance & Capability

The 260 hp 1UZ-FE engine is widely considered one of the most reliable powerplants ever made, capable of a 0–100 km/h sprint in approximately 7.7 seconds. Its rear-wheel-drive configuration and double-wishbone suspension deliver a 'magic carpet' ride quality that remains competitive with modern luxury sedans. It is perfectly suited for high-speed highway cruising where its stability and engine silence are most apparent.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the LS400 offers a spacious five-seat layout with high-quality leather and power-adjustable front seats. The air conditioning system in these models is famously robust, capable of cooling the large cabin quickly even in 45°C heat. The interior is insulated with extensive sound-deadening material, making it an ideal sanctuary for long commutes or family road trips.

Safety

Safety features for this era were class-leading, including standard dual front airbags and a four-wheel anti-lock braking system (ABS). The vehicle also features traction control, which is highly useful on sandy or rain-slicked road surfaces occasionally found in the region. Its rigid body-on-frame-inspired monocoque construction provides a solid feel that inspires confidence on fast-moving multi-lane highways.

The bottom line

For the buyer who wants a classic V8 executive experience with the legendary reliability of a Lexus, this low-mileage 1996 LS400 is an unbeatable entry into the modern classic market.
