Summary

This 2002 Land Cruiser VXR MID represents the peak of Toyota’s legendary 100-series reliability, powered by a robust V8 engine built for longevity. As a GCC-spec model, it is specifically engineered to handle the region's extreme heat with superior cooling systems and heavy-duty components. The silver exterior is a top-tier choice for the UAE market, effectively masking desert dust while ensuring strong resale potential. For the buyer seeking a durable overlander or a dependable large family vehicle, this Land Cruiser offers a level of mechanical trust that few modern rivals can match. Its high seating capacity and permanent four-wheel drive make it equally capable for cross-border highway trips or weekend desert exploration.

This Car vs Other 2002 Land Cruisers

With 365,000 km, this vehicle’s mileage is typical for a 20-year-old Land Cruiser in the GCC, where these engines are known to easily surpass the half-million kilometer mark with regular maintenance. The silver exterior is one of the most desirable colors in the local used market, maintaining its finish better under the intense sun than darker shades. Compared to others from this era, a GCC-spec VXR maintains a significant value premium due to its localized cooling and air conditioning specifications.

VXR MID vs Lower Trims

The VXR MID trim provides a significant jump in luxury over the base GXR, offering a more refined interior and enhanced electronic aids. While lower trims often feature a six-cylinder engine, this VXR is equipped with the 4.7-litre V8, providing the extra torque necessary for effortless highway overtaking and sand driving. This trim also includes premium features like independent rear climate control and upgraded upholstery, which are highly valued by GCC families.

Land Cruiser vs Segment Rivals

The 100-series Land Cruiser leads the Nissan Patrol Super Safari and Chevrolet Tahoe of the same era in terms of mechanical longevity and parts availability. Its permanent four-wheel-drive system offers superior on-road stability during rain or gravel compared to the part-time systems found in many American rivals. Additionally, the Toyota’s massive service network across every GCC country ensures that maintenance is straightforward even in remote locations.

Running Costs & Resale

Fuel consumption for the 4.7L V8 typically averages around 16.5 L/100km, reflecting the heavy-duty nature of this SUV in stop-start city traffic. As a GCC-spec Toyota, it benefits from the most extensive authorized service network in the region, with parts widely available at competitive prices. The Land Cruiser 100-series is a legendary 'value hold' in the UAE, experiencing much slower depreciation than European luxury SUVs of the same age.

Performance & Capability

The 4.7-litre V8 produces a verified 235 hp and 434 Nm of torque, delivered through a smooth automatic transmission and a permanent 4WD system. A 0–100 km/h time of approximately 11.2 seconds is secondary to its massive low-end pulling power, which is essential for navigating soft sand dunes. Its heavy-duty suspension and locking center differential make it one of the most capable off-road platforms ever built for the Middle Eastern terrain.

Comfort & Cabin

This VXR MID trim features a spacious eight-seat configuration, perfect for large families or group desert trips. The cabin is specifically designed for the climate, featuring a powerful multi-zone air conditioning system with dedicated rear vents to keep all passengers cool during summer. The interior offers excellent insulation from road and wind noise, providing a surprisingly quiet highway experience for a vehicle with such high ground clearance.

Safety

Standard safety features on this trim include dual front airbags and a specialized four-wheel anti-lock braking system (ABS) designed for varied surfaces. It also features Toyota’s Vehicle Skid Control (VSC), which is particularly useful for maintaining stability on high-speed desert highways and sandy tracks. The robust body-on-frame construction provides a solid safety cell, further supported by side-impact door beams.

The bottom line

This Land Cruiser is the ideal choice for a buyer who prioritizes mechanical durability and legendary off-road capability over modern tech gimmicks. It remains a blue-chip investment in the GCC market, offering a proven V8 powertrain in the region's most favorable resale color.
