Toyota Land Cruiser GXR

Highlights

• Naturally aspirated 4.7-litre V8 engine
• Low-range transfer case with locking differentials
• Strong value retention in the GCC used market

Summary

This GCC-spec Land Cruiser represents the gold standard of durability in the region, featuring the legendary 4.7-litre V8 that is widely considered one of the most reliable engines ever built. With mileage reaching 414,000 km, this vehicle is a testament to Toyota engineering, as high-mileage examples like this are commonly seen crossing the half-million mark across the UAE. The Silver exterior is a premier choice for the GCC market, offering the best heat reflection during summer and excellent resale appeal. For the serious buyer, the GXR trim provides the essential off-road hardware and family comfort without the electronic complexity of higher tiers, making it easier to maintain long-term. In a market where reliability is the primary currency, this 16-year-old workhorse remains a top-tier choice for both desert expeditions and cross-border highway runs.

This Car vs Other 2010 Land Cruisers

At 414,000 km, this Land Cruiser has been driven approximately 25,800 km annually, which aligns with the higher-than-average usage typical for large SUVs in the GCC. While the odometer reflects its service as a long-distance traveler, these V8 engines are famous in the UAE for their longevity when properly maintained. The Silver paintwork is a significant advantage, as it is one of the top-performing colors for local resale and maintains its finish better under the intense desert sun than darker alternatives.

GXR vs Lower Trims

The GXR trim is the preferred 'sweet spot' for GCC buyers, adding essential comforts over the base GX model. Key upgrades include the factory-fitted refrigerator in the center console for summer cooling and dual-zone automatic climate control with dedicated rear vents. It also features cruise control and steering wheel-mounted audio controls, which are vital for the long highway stretches between emirates.

Land Cruiser vs Segment Rivals

Compared to the Nissan Patrol Safari or Chevrolet Tahoe of the same era, the Land Cruiser leads in overall mechanical simplicity and long-term part availability. Its 138-litre dual-tank configuration (93L main + 45L sub) offers a significantly longer cruising range for remote desert trips or drives to Oman. Furthermore, the Land Cruiser's reputation for AC reliability in 50-degree heat remains unmatched in the large SUV segment.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 4.7L V8 typically averages 14.5 to 16.3 L/100km, with highway efficiency benefiting from the 5-speed automatic's overdrive. Service intervals are strictly every 5,000 to 10,000 km in the GCC due to heat and dust, with a massive network of authorized Al Futtaim centers and independent specialists across every city. The Land Cruiser holds its value exceptionally well, typically depreciating at just 8–10% annually, which is the lowest in its class for the UAE market.

Performance & Capability

The 271 hp V8 engine is built for low-end torque rather than sprinting, enabling a 0-100 km/h time of approximately 9.2 seconds. Its true strength lies in its body-on-frame construction and full-time 4WD system featuring a Torsen center differential and a dedicated low-range transfer case for heavy sand. With 225 mm of ground clearance and a 3,500 kg braked towing capacity, it is fully equipped for weekend dune bashing or hauling heavy trailers across the desert.

Comfort & Cabin

The eight-seat layout is designed for large families, featuring a flexible 60:40 split in the second row and side-folding seats in the third row. Cabin comfort is prioritized for the local climate through high-output air conditioning and a factory-cool box that remains effective even during peak summer months. Acoustic glass and heavy insulation ensure that the V8 remains a quiet, refined cruiser during high-speed highway travel.

Safety

Safety features standard on this GXR trim include Anti-lock Brakes (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), and Brake Assist. It is equipped with front and side airbags, along with Stability Control (VSC) and Traction Control (A-TRAC) which are essential for maintaining grip on unpredictable sand and gravel surfaces. The 2010 model year carries a 5-star safety rating from reputable testing bodies, providing peace of mind for family transport.

The bottom line

This is an ideal opportunity for a buyer seeking a bulletproof 4x4 that has already survived the harshest GCC conditions; it is a proven machine that offers legendary Toyota reliability at a fraction of the cost of a newer model.
